I will be saying that next month when I move to Texas :)

then I will probably complain it's to hot! hahaha

isn't that what us Canadians always complain about - the weather? =p

I never complain about the weather. Does that make me a bad Canadian?

I think, maybe, that makes you a good Canadian?

Some guy came through the drive thru at work a couple months back and there was a blizzard outside. I will never understand why people feel the need to drive through blizzards to get coffee, but that's an entirely different conversation... Anyways, I opened the window and I got slammed with snow in the face and said something like "god I hate this weather!" and he looked at me and said, "This is Canada! If you don't like it then leave" and being the smart a$$ I am, I looked at him and said, "Yeah I'm working on it thanks!"

I wonder why I didn't get a tip...

OMG I hate HATE HATE when people use that line! It drives me bonkers. :bonk:

Ugh I know right? I was born in Canada, I've lived in Canada my whole life and I do love my country... But damnit, it's cold and I have every right to complain about the things I don't like! We live in a democracy, hello freedom of expression. And its guys like that who complain how hot it is in July... hypocrite? I think so!!

Having lived in BC from birth until the time I moved to Texas, I must admit I've long wondered how people east of BC can handle the weather. Vancouver? -5° is considered winter. Rarely does it get colder than that. The odd day down to -8 even -10 from time to time. Calgary? -20° seems common. Saskatoon? Winnipeg? Not much better. Even Ontario seems to get hit with brutal long lasting winters. And then you guys have to put up with the humidity in the summertime too. (Humidity is virtually unknown in BC during summertime)

I was talking to my ex in Alberta a month or so ago. She mentioned it had gone down to -40°. I asked her what that was like. (The coldest weather I've been in is -16° stepping outside at Calgary airport for a minute or two). She said her shocks froze. Her alternator froze. Her battery would BARELY start the car (no battery heater) and even with the block heater plugged in, it was a hard start. The tires had a flat spot that made it feel chunky going down the road until they'd heated up enough to be round again. Heater put out luke warm air at best. She also mentioned her hair would dry in about 3 seconds after a shower simply by stepping outside.

It really is another world living in ultra cold and ultra hot climate.

I don't know where in Texas you're going to, but in Houston "cold" is a completely different perception. Cold here is when it's cooler outside than it is inside. So 18°C feels cold. Granted, it's not suck your arms into your armpits and shiver cold. But it's about the only noticeable feeling of cold you'll ever get. YOU WILL MISS SNOW! It snowed here in Houston for 1 day last winter. Barely enough to get your feet wet if you were wearing sandels. It was the 3rd time in 26 years that it snowed. Now in North Texas you have a much better chance of getting snow.

About a week ago when Amarillo was getting pounded with a foot of snow, in south Texas (Brownsville) it was 100°F (38°C)

I didn't even bring a jacket with me when I moved here. I can't say as I've ever missed not having it either. A sweatshirt on a cool day works fine. It will get down to near freezing temps here. But rarely longer than a day. When it snowed that one day in December, the next day it was 15°C out. It was 28° last weekend. Tonight it's supposed to go down to 2°. Later this week? Highs of 26° and lows of 17°.

During cold snaps, I don't mind just roughing it out. Being cold actually feels refreshing. Whereas feeling cold in Canada is more of an annoyance.

It's the NEVER ENDING SUMMER in Texas that will probably bother you. It tends to stay at 33-35° all summer long in Houston. Only hit 100°F (38C) twice last summer. I remember in October last year, sitting outside at midnight sweating and thinking to myself when will this end? I looked at the weather history and it hadn't been below 20°C day or night since April. And it only got down to 20° four times in April. You really can't cool off. Indoor air conditioning only cools so much and the showers aren't very cold either.

Arizona people have been known to shut off their hot water tanks during the summer. Or shower using the cold water only tap. Makes sense. Your hot water tank is at 120°F and the outside air temp is 115°F. I've showered in cold water only in TX during the summer. And it's not even that cold. (The water system is above ground here which makes it warmer and it doesn't cool off at night do to the high humidity) Trying the same thing in Canada is like being electrocuted. When I visited my parents in BC at this time last year, I remember rinsing my mouth out after brushing my teeth and the water felt like ice. I'd gotten used to the warm "cold" water down south.

I have been LOVING the weather here :D I left New Brunswick on Feb 3rd with 6 ft of snow on the ground..

We've had the AC on for about a month here.

Don't get me wrong, it can get very chilly here, a few days of 0C and under, and it feels colder too because it's SO humid here. We actually had 2 inches of snow fall the week before our wedding! But mother nature must have known that my family was coming from a place of ice and snow because the week they were here it was between 15-25 celius :) Our wedding day it was sunny and 24.

I love it though because everything is in full bloom and green here already. We've been getting a ton of rain, but it's just sped up the growing. I can't remember the last time I saw a full blown spring from the actual first day!

The summer will be a huge adjustment. It can get hot, and although I have lived next to the Atlantic all my life, I've never experienced humidity like they have here in the summer! Thank goodness for an aunt and uncle with a lakehouse, and grandparents right on the beach :D

OMG, I spent the coldest winter EVER in Edmonton once! :o The air in your lungs literally crystallized every time you took a breath..... it was actually colder there than in the Arctic that year. They were warning people not to go outside.... but if you did, you needed to cover all your skin because it would begin to freeze in seconds. It was craziness. We went to bingo one night (because there's pretty much nothing else to do in Edmonton other than hit the bars or the mall) and they stopped the games about 20-30 minutes before the end so that everyone could go outside and start their cars.

haha

Oh my Ottawa days seem so far now....for 3 to 4 weeks every winter in Ottawa, usually around the middle to end of January, it always dips into the -30 to -40 range.

In that weather, there is really no amount of bundling you can do to make yourself get through the day outside. I lived on one of the busiest streets in downtown Ottawa and on those days, you wouldn't see a single soul outside. It was SO peaceful! haha

My windows would freeze shut and the door to the building would often freeze so going out wasn't really an option. The toll it takes on your body is incredible. Your muscles start to lose their mind and like Krikit said, every time you breath in your lungs feel like they can't expand and it hurts.

Oh the days.....

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
