I remember the influx, the government said that they predicted only 100,000 new immigrants in the first year , ended up like 1,000,000. Do you think France or Germany had that any new Polish Immigrants? No. For some reason they all came to the UK for our cushy benfits/welfare.

Of course - immigrants only come to the UK/US to live off welfare benefits because they are too stupid or lazy to work.

Puhlease

No! They leave for a better life because their own countries do not offer what they need. But why UK and not other wealthy European nations?

Considering that many immigrants (legal & illegal) come from countries that have little to no social welfare services...it certainly puts another fat juicy carrot on the end of the stick pointing in the direction of the "land of milk and honey".

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

They found it, it must have been available. It's work that some people do not feel is worthy of them, so they don't do it. It's not the Polish who are the skivers.

Oh I agree that their are too many skivers in the Uk of British origins. I did not claim that the polish were skivers, in fact from my experience they are hard workers.

From what I understand - they are seasonal workers. They make more money in the UK than they do in equivalent jobs in Poland (most of them work in factories), and because of the way the tax laws work in the UK, they can leave for part of the year and get the income tax refunded.

Is it even true? I am fairly sure there are immigrant workers in all the EU countries where the work they can/will do is available.

From what I understand, Yes. Even those illigals who risk death in a shipping container to cross 26 miles of water because France is not where they want to be. Risk death or Stay in France? Its a tough call.

They don't normally come to take the welfare services, and the fact that they are leaving when the work is no longer available rather suggests that what they want is to work, not live on welfare.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Welfare is one benefit but I don't think they even qualify for benfits unless they become a resident (not sure how that works for EU movement of labor).

These illegals in containers aren't Pollacks. Pollacks don't need to come in a container, they are free to come into the UK as they are members of the EU.

They aren't entitled to benefits until they have been a permanent resident for over 6 months.

I do understand what you're saying though. The UK is so small & there so many more people. The free services just can't cope like they used to. (GP's, NHS, Goverment housing)

There are lots of Brits are leaving. Many these days are leaving to go to Australia.

These services are not Free - they are free at point of use. :D

Our taxes paid for them and bloody good value it is, even with the waste and problems.

I know, I was just extending beyond the Polish and free movement within the EU to illustrate that there is something that the UK seems to offer that France and othe EU nations do not.

If I had not met my wife then I was going to get the working holiday visa and go to Australia for 2 years (with the plan that if I liked it then I would stay).

Many EU nations (including France and Germany) provide much more generous benefits than the UK.

There were lots and lots of Polish nationals working in Germany. It's not like the UK absorbed them all. Not even close.
