Hi all - we just had our I-130 approved and are waiting for the file to transfer to the NVC. I'm the US citizen and am moving in a few weeks and want to make sure my contact information is updated in the right places. Can anyone tell me where I need to update my address since we don't have an NVC case number yet?

Thanks all!

*** You can still use your USCIS case number and e-mail the NVC ahead of time. Then follow up with the hardcopy in the memo type. I did that for my wife, the benificiary, and got e mailed back from NVC 3 dyas later and an actual mail too. Is that a NOA 2 right, k... also starts gathering your documents because it will go fast from here on. Get the DS3230 and DS 230 ready to go because ur wife needs to signed those. Goodluck!

The smart thing to do is that when you know your new address, you can change the address with USPS and they will forward all mail from your old addresss to the new address. It is very fast and convinent. You can still change it with USCIS but the thing is that your case is not pending anymore. Good luck!!

I won't recommend the USPS route because most of these immigration docs have "Return to Sender" stamped on it hence USPS never forwards the mail but in fact sends it back to them with your forwarding address and then they send it to you. It happened to me and it delayed my process for a long time so dun count on that.

The best thing to do is keep calling NVC to check if the case number has been assigned, as soon as they assign the case #, they will verify the address with you and you can change it right away- I applied for I-130 in 2006 but my I-130 was approved on March 20th 2009, NVC recieved it with the address that I applied from, even though I changed it with the USCIS, but good thing I was able to change the address as soon as they assigned the case number!

In short, keep calling NVC and do it on phone right away! :-)

I had a case with USCIS and USPS forwarded the mail from USCIS to my new address. That's why I recommended that. But u r right that the best thing is to change the address with NVC.

I guess your USPS happened to be the nice one then.. mine was sent back to USCIS just because it said "return to sender" on the envelope... if fwding service is requested, then USPS definitely fwds your mail to you.. but yeah better to be safe than sorry- I believe that we shall not let them delay the process just because we couldnt make that one phone call on time.

To piggy back off of what was said, you should also do a forwarding with the USPS, this will automatically forward your mail going to your old address to your new address while you are waiting on USCIS/NVC to receive and update your information. Good luck to you!

LIVE REP will not change your address while talking to them. You have to have an e-mail or letter forwarded to them. They got my birthdate wrong in my K3 case but on the CR1 case was right and I told her what cant she just change it right there while she was reading it berbantum because she was looking at the same information except for whoever entered my birthdate didnt do it right. So she told me I have to send her a letter, copy of my ID card, birth certificate and passport EVENTHOUGH all the info on my K3 and CR1 are the same yet she cant do 2 seconds of her time to get it right in that comp she is reading in front of her. So much for saving the tree uh?
