Hi ,

My fiancee arrived in the US on Saturday (April 3) and we are planning on having the civil ceremony this Thursday (April 9). We applied for the marriage license this morning, but they need proof of address that he is living with me in my apartment. Since he only just got here, he doesn't have anything that "prooves" his address is with me. How did any of the rest of you who got married quickly after your fiancee arrived get the license? What did you use for proof of address?

Thanks!

Add him to your Residence Lease which should be pretty easy to do. If you own your home, add him to the Water bill or Electric Bill. You may also have him apply for a State Identification Card.

Not every state (or county) requires this. We got married in Florida (we live in Colorado) and were just visiting Florida to get married in front of her family/friends. They just saw my driver's license and her passport, nothing else. You could fly down to Las Vegas and get married there - lots of people do that. Good Luck

Not there yet, but I've already checked into this. Here in the Chicago area, to add Alla to the ComEd electric bill, we need to go to the local payment center and can use her Russian Passport and Visa documents. To add her to the Nicor gas bill, she just needs to be on the phone when I call to add her.

Her passport and a utility bill with her name on it is all Chase bank needs to open a joint checking account and give her a debit card.

All of the dual name on the address paperwork will be used during the AOS interview to prove the continuing relationship.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
