  1. 1. Rare or Medium Rare

    • A rare done steak should be warm through the middle, lightly charred on the outside, browned around the sides and bright red in the middle.

    • At medium rare your steak should be warm through the middle with a hint of red. Most of the center of the steak should be pink. The sides should be well browned, the top and bottom charred to a dark brown color.

    • none of the above

  2. 2. Medium or Medium Well

    • A medium steak should have a thick band of light pink through the middle but be more browned than pink. The sides should be a rich brown color and the top and bottom charred darkly (but no black).

    • A medium well steak should have a hint of pink in the very middle of the steak. The surface should be a dark brown with good charring on the top and bottom

  3. 3. Well done, you don't care or no steak thanks!

    • Well done. This steak should NOT be burnt on the outside. While there is not even the faintest hint of pink in the middle it should be browned through, not burnt through.

Definitely Rare! Especially a good Porterhouse, medium rare is my ultimate fave food. Warm and red on the inside, crispy and charred on the outside.

I could eat steak everyday. Especially from Peter Luger's or Wolfgang's in NY.

Luckily I don't or else I'd probably either gain 100 pounds or have a heart attack, LOL.

I love beef tataki so I can handle my steaks pretty rare. Growing up- they had to be well done, so my tastes have changed.

Remember that scene in Rosemary's Baby when she takes the steak, puts it in the pan for a second, flips it and then takes it out? I used to think that was so gross. Now I'm like "Mmmmmm, steak."

I saw Peter Luger's and Wolfgang's 'Cut' on the food network this weekend - both in Bon Apetite's magazine for top steak places (Luger's was number one).

I like my steak well done.

Now I want a nice piece of steak tonight! Thanks, T-Mix!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Both are very good, but I do prefer Luger's better. My fiance prefers Wolfgang's. I have to say that Wolfgang's side dishes are better and the ambiance and location is better.

We go out for steak more than a couple should, LOL. Our big thing is whenever we bet on something, we bet a steak dinner. I won the last bet!

I've already requested that our first celebratory first dinner in NY living together be a steak dinner at Luger's or Wolfgang's LOL.

As you can probably tell, I'm very passionate about steak.

You forgot to put in 'Blue Rare' :P

I like different cuts cooked different ways. Mostly medium rare though. I've been to Luger's before, but I prefer Morton's :P

I'm not even going to look that up <_<

Everyone here raves about Ruth's Chris Steakhouse so we went to one. I guess my expectations were a bit higher from the buildup because I was a little disappointed. Did you guys hear that all the Outbacks closed down at home?

The steak was horrible at RC's. They broil the steaks which I don't really like. Everything else there is great though- just not the steak.

I didn't hear that - I see they closed down in Ontario!

We only ever went to the one in Calgary once, we walked in, looked at the menu, looked around and left.

It's nothing disgusting or anything. I had an uncle who used to get it prepared like that. Most places here won't even cook anything under medium rare.
