I am not afraid of the police.

There is a huge presence on the roads, I drive down side roads to get to work and it's an 15 minute drive and usually I see 2-3 cops waiting to nab speeders. It doesn't scare me though. I don't really put much thought into it, but then again, I don't usually drive over the speed limit.

I'm more afraid of the poo-poo. Twin 16 month old niece and nephew will do that to you though.

I was more afraid of the Bicycle Police in Montreal. Some of them were wearing neon-orange camoflauge pants.

I also noticed a difference between South Jersey and North Jersey. I never had a problem in South Jersey when Jared was down living in Galloway.

Up here though...yikes...they will mess with ya.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Yea south jersey and north jersey are like two different states. It's strange.

I notice in general when I drive through NY state and PA that there is a lot of speed traps. Ever get stopped in NY state? Mike got a 400.00 speeding ticket once. He was speeding in a work zone at 7:00 am... the 'work zone' wasn't even active yet.

Well I've drivin in every state but Alaska so I can definatly tell you I do see a lot more police presence on the roads in PA and Jersery then others. Though I get more speeding tickets in Kansas then any other state.

New Jersey I just see them on the turnpike a lot when I'd drive out to that part of the country. More then most states on the interstate. Never got a ticket in Jersey though to date...

Wow. Good for you! You've made it to every State! I have 6 more to go. LOL. I'd love to see Alaska. I'm sure it's absolutely breathtaking.

Actually I have one state left, I haven't been to Alaska yet.

I used to be notorious for speeding tickets and warnings. Got tickets in 13 states in the past. Some states are definatly more strict then others from my experience.

Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nex Mexico, Iowa, Nevada and Pensylvania are the ones I got the most tickets and never any warnings.

Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland and Utah I've got the most warnings from and less tickets.

There were a few other states too, but can't recall what the outcome was.

By far PA was the most expenisve one other then the one I got in Ontario that topped the charts. Most are just the generic $40-$60.

I'm so glad I haven't had a ticket for years now. I was pretty bad when I used to drive here from Canada and when I first moved here too...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

Yeah, some police departments (and officers) can be a little overzealous. In Texas, the ones to watch out for are constables. They won't give you any leeway at all. It's often assumed that constables act the way they do because they're much lower on the totem pole than regular police officers.

As for Canada... I was shocked to learn that the RCMP uses "ghost cars." I'd never heard of such a thing. I don't think police departments in the U.S. can do that. The idea of a "ghost car" seems extremely unfair to me. How am I supposed to know who is and who isn't a cop?

Well, then that explains it. Never been to CT. I know I've never seen nor heard of anything like that in Houston, but I could believe other cities and states do that. Regardless of where "ghost cars" are, I still dislike it.

ghost cars all over VA, DC! In Vancouver, even saw a unmarked dodge caravan as a RCMP ghost car, sweet, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It's fairer in Canada.. its usually a crown vic.. or a mustang.. here it could be ANY kind of car..

Ok, never heard the term "Ghost Car" before this. I figured that they are unmarked police patrols, but just to be sure, I did a google search and just watched nearly 30 minutes of some NJ car chase where the car disappears for about 10 seconds, and got rick roll'd once, but no real definition of the term.

My interactions with police officers have been nothing but okay and very quick. My fear I guess isn't really fear, it's more of just a disdain from them just lurking every where.

They are out to get you, not to help you out. You really can't get away with anything, even if it's completely mindless.

I got stopped a couple months back for pulling out of a parking lot after eating and forgetting to put my lights on. Again, I got a ticket. He literally got me less then half a mile out of the parking lot. I forgot and didn't even have a chance to notice.

Whereabouts did you live in NJ? I used to live next to Newark so....the cops there aren't exactly the nicest because they don't have the nicest job.

is a "ghost car" what might also be referred to as an "unmarked car"? Cause I thought all states had them, the trick being to know the make and model the police are using.

One of my strange paranoias is that I may one day be tasered while I'm out and about, minding my own business....
