Does anyone still decorate Easter Eggs??

My family is going to this weekend... lol I have a nephew, but he's 2, a little young to appreciate it... and my brother is in his mid 30s, and I'm in my late 20s... I think we've decorated eggs more these past few years than I remember doing so when I was a kid.... :lol:

I made hot cross buns last night! I started out with your recipe, BermyCat, and spent a ton of time reducing the amounts and making conversions. When I was finally done I read down to the bottom of the recipe so I could read about the cross...... and there was nothing mentioned!!!!! :o So I ended up finding another recipe online. I haven't actually baked them, yet, because the dough had to sit overnight in the refrigerator, so I can't tell you how they turned out. I'm going to bake them in a little bit. So excited! lol

Hehehe it is a stretch of the imagination to call American cheese 'cheese'! That is one of my complaints here - few sources of decent cheese! I need to go to a specialty market to get good cheese. What is sold as old cheddar/sharp cheddar in the supermarkets here barely qualifies for mild new cheddar. Heck, they age if for all of 3 months! American cheese - hah!

OMG, that reminds me of a funny story! The first time we went to a Subway in Ontario, I asked for Provolone cheese. They didn't have that, so I said, okay, American. I got such a FUNNY look from the poor kid behind the counter! I found out later, that American is basically processed cheese that is NOT greasy/slimy when heated and not as heavy. In addition, it is basically found only as cheese slices and as a brick if you buy Velveeta. It is more milk based and not a "churned" style of cheese. It's smooth and not lumpy/chunky.

UGH!!! I wanna put a picture here...... can't paste it... can't upload it... :crying: help............

I always just put into the category of our mild cheddar. It's not exactly the same I guess, but it's pretty much our processed cheddar to me.

I guess the benefit of moving to NYC is that I can pretty much find everything I could ever want or a similar equivalent. Our neighbourhood has a lot of Irish deli's so it's easy to find similar Canadian products. I'll also have access to Italian stores, which is what I'm used to. I don't really drink pop/soda and I like ketchup, but I can eat any kind.

I actually prefer the Velveeta Mac and Cheese in the US. It's SO good. I also LOVE the American gum selection. I'm looking forward to having regular access to Orbit and Winterfresh.

I do prefer the yogurt in Canada, but mostly because of the packaging. I like buying the big cases with the smaller individual sized cuppies. I don't know if its a NYC thing, but I can only find the individually sold yogurt cups and the are like double the size of the ones I like to eat. Oh well!

Oh and I'm going to miss All Dressed chips. I don't eat them that often, but I'll be sad the day I get a craving and can't have them!

SO yesterday I went to buy hubby a chocolate bunny for Easter, and I went to Target to get something yummy to put out for him from the Easter Bunny (who we all know is REAL)..

Anyway, I'm down in the Easter aisle, and all I can find is baskets & toys, no candy or chocolate at all.. and I panic, and have one of those "holy cow I'm not in Canada anymore" moments, and I'm all discombobulated..

Do Americans not eat chocolate at Easter? Should I have had a bunny sent from Canada.. I left the store totally befuddled, and then went to the hair salon where the girls gently reassured me that Americans DO in fact eat chocolate bunnies but that Target was simply sold out! :lol: Ahh
