I will not have time to change my name after our wedding before the honeymoon. We were planning on sending the paperwork in immediately after the wedding. Once I return I will be changing my last name to the same one as my fiance. On the paperwork I send in should I use my maiden name? When I send in my change of address should I still use my maiden name or my married name? Should I send in everything with my maiden name until we get the green card? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you plan to use his name in the future put the new name on the paperwork and just in a place where they ask about other names used put the maiden name. It is much easier to start the application in new name than tho change it later. You will have time to change other documents later.

It won't cause problems since my maiden name will still be attached to my social security number etc?

I would like to hear some people that actually used their married name on their papers. I was wondering myself as well

I had everything in my maiden name before the marriage (SSN, credit cards, etc.), then got married, then filed for AOS right afterwards. Since I intend to use my husband's name as my married name, I put down my married name as "last name" on all the AOS forms.

Some time after sending off the AOS package, I went to the SSA office and had them change my name in their system from maiden name to married name.

There's no problem at all, just use the name which you plan on using in the future for the AOS paperwork, you don't have to have anything else changed beforehand.

AOS timeline:

03/17/06 filed for AOS

03/28-06 touched

04/04/06 biometrics

04/05/06 touched

05/23/06 transfered to CSC

06/17/06 touched

08/16/06 touched

11/20/06 USCIS cust.service started inquiry about case (because it's outside of processing times)

11/30/06 approval e-mail

12/07/06 Greencard in the mail (= 8 months and 21 days for the entire AOS process)

Ditto to CWR.

I put my married name on all the paperwork even though everything else was in my maiden. You are adjusting from a fiance visa, its to be expected if you are the female to have a namechange when applying for your AOS. My SSN is still in my maiden name because I cant change it until i have my greencard. That is why you put your marraige certificate in the package, to prove it.

I am sure it is a lot easier to begin the AOS paperwork with the name you plan to use. The USCIS documents become the standard for identification. If you begin with your maiden name and try to change it later you will only add more steps to the process and more opportunities for problems and mistakes.
