A woman’s eye was glued shut for eight hours after she mistook a bottle of nail glue for eye drops.

Paula Griffin, 29, woke up with blurred vision and mistakenly squirted the hazardous substance into her right eye, gluing it shut for eight hours.

“By the time I realized what had happened, it was too late and I couldn’t dodge the liquid completely,” Griffin said.

Griffin said it the pain was a burning sensation and she described it as “agonizing.”

Eye specialists at Bournemouth Hospital in Dorset, England, cut off Griffin's lashes to pry the eye open again.

In order to open Griffin’s eye, doctors applied paraffin, which helped dissolve the glue. Griffin’s suffered a cut across here eyeball, so she had to take a week off work. Now, she wears false eyelashes.

I guess that is even worse than a man mistaking a bottle of super glue for lotion when he was masturbating.

I'm not sure about that...

What a sticky situation.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Actually, anyone that has superglue or any of these "one-drop" adhesives in the house should use extreme caution with it. This stuff is dangerous.

My wife bought some superglue to repair a ceramic figurine that broke. No...she didn't mistake the glue for eyedrops. What happened was that she used a needle to puncture the metal seal on the tube instead of using the screw on cap provided to do it. These tubes are not supposed to be pressurized, but this one was. When she punctured the metal seal, glue shot out of the end and flew 2 feet in the air into her eye. Yikes!!!! The solvents in the glue are extremely irritating to the eye and the pain was excrutiating for her. Not to mention that when the glue dries and crystalizes it scratches the cornea causing even more pain.

We flushed her eye with water and I called the answering service for my opthamologist since it was Sunday. Fortunately he called me back quickly and agreed to meet us at his office to treat her. He told us that this type of accident is very common and in the worst case can cause permanent damage to the eye. Fortunately he got all the crystalized pieces of dried glue out of her eye and gave her drops to aid in the healing of the scratched and burned cornea along with a script for pain medicine.

It took about a week for the pain and redness to subside in my wife's eye. Fortunately there was no permanent damage and her vision is normal again.

Our opthamologist sternly lectured my wife that she should have been wearing safety glasses when doing this type of work. Better to be safe than sorry. We already had safety glasses in my shop out in the garage, but I bought another pair for inside the house too. My wife is a believer in using safety glasses now. Safety glasses are cheap and sold at any hardware store or home improvement center. Anyone working with common household chemicals in their house should wear safety glasses. Bleach, ammonia, or any other common household chemical can damage your eyes if you have an accident.

I'm not sure about that...

I'd imagine that would be a lot more embarrassing. :P

he'd sure have a grip on reality.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
