Good to hear people are finding work out there in the IT field! I’ve posted my CV/Resume out on a bunch of different sites and I have to admit I’ve had a number of offers to come in for an interview but most where temp some too far away to make it worth the drive but there is some light at the end of the tunnel. If I got laid off I could likely survive on just temp or contract work for now but no health insurance. I think getting myself up to spec for the US market did help as did my new job title at work.

I agree with what’s being said about IT jobs, I’ve seen a few listed as IT and what they wanted was someone to do paperwork that could also install a printer lol, it’s misleading alright. I think for now I’ll sit tight where am at, I’ve got decent pay good health insurance, on the investment plan.. etc and I think I’ll work part time on the side as an independent SOHO IT Consultant. Which I don’t expect to be easy as I’ll have to stand out from the rest and show I’m not one of these take your money and run types.

Couple of things... Get your resume out on Dice.Com... And make sure your resume says Authorized to Work In USA, And apply for Perm, Temp and Contract positions. If you are flexible the opportunities will present themselves.

Good Luck,

thnx for the post.....I just do't understand as to why I have to put "Authorized to Work In USA" in my resume..I 've heard the same comment on other posts as well ,still not quiete sure...

If I'm applying for a job and living in US,then I'm suppused to be "legal and Authorized to Work In USA" anyway right...

I feel like I would confuse them more by specifiying it....

The reason being, there are lots of people in US on work visa and many different types of visa. I don't understand the details fully but some of these visa requires action on employer side (ex. provide sponsorship) which costs employer money. Lately, employers have been only looking at candidates that does not require any visa processing stuff (ex. avoid any extra expense). So like others have said, it is important to mention that you're authorized to work in US in your resume. This will definitely void getting you eliminated too soon in the interview selection process.

Yes - many IT employers probably receive resumes from people who would like to come and work here on an

H 1B visa (which the employer would have to sponsor). If they know up front that is not the case for you, then you should be put into the right 'pool' (instead of the bin

My husband came into the country in April or 2009. We were unable to find him an IT job so he is now doing an internship with a well known nonprofit organization in my state. This has given him references and experience working for an American IT company that he can put on his Resume. This has resulted in him getting some side work and we are hopeing a possible job at the end of the internship. I do put that his authorized to work in the United States mostly because if I was an employer and saw a resume that had every job posting from Peru I would wonder if the candidate was able to work in the United States.
