translating birht certificate???

i have to translate my birth certificate from Spanish to English but not sure how to format the translation.

Do i do it in point form or as close to the same format as the original? I will be doing my own translation and probably having my sister certify the translation to not have any problems arise by certifying it myself.

Can i scan the certificate, blow it up and have the English word typed next to the Spanish one?

anyone who has done this themselves, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Translation Requirements

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations.

The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

Translation is accurate, and

Translator is competent to translate.

You don't need to translate it for the K1 Visa. You do need to have the BC translated when you are in the United States and assembling your AOS package. What country are you from? If by chance you're from Mexico, I just translated mine from Spanish to English a month or two ago and could send you the word doc. Let me know...

The OP posted in the DCF forum, not K1. The certified translation would likely be needed in a DCF situation.

The translations that I have seen have been on separate sheets using the format of the original document.

I would be careful, because as someone else posted, the translations that I needed here in Brazil had to be done by a public sworn translator. I could have easily translated the document myself and it would have saved me almost $200.00 but it had to be done by a publicly sworn translator. It is true that in K-1 you can translate the documents yourself as long as you sign saying that it is an accurate translation, but DCF may be different and you should check with you consulate and see how that goes!!

Also, I've had TONS of translations done through this process and in getting my Italian citizenship (I had to have all birth, marriage, death, divorce certs translated into Italian for THREE generations!) and all of them have always been done on seperate sheets..so I would do it that way. For signatures they just wrote (in Italian and/or Portuguese) "signature"

What are you applying for and who is the agency in need of the translation... USCIS/ US Consulate/ NVC/ Other?

Start by translating everything and trying to make it look similar to the original. What Payxibka said is right! Some people are answering this questions as if he is applying for a K-1 and some are answering as if he is applying for DCF! The answers are totally and completely different! We need to know what type of visa the OP is applying for. I'm going to assume he's applied for DCF since he posted in the DCF forum, but you never know.....

And in response to the above poster, nice touch, but I hardly doubt that was needed. The translations should be done on seperate sheets of paper, but cutting out the original border and gluing it to a new sheet is hardly needed!! Put the original and the translation together using paperclips. And if you want to cut out borders, be my guest. But it WILL NOT make your translation more acceptable than someone who did not cut our the translation!

If that is what the Toronto website says, then good for you!! And YES, you have to include the original!! Again, with all of my experience with translations, I have NEVER seen a translation done in the way that you have proposed. That being said, it will probably be fine. But if I were you, I'd do it the way that all of us have suggested on this forum and type up one in English that looks as similar as possible to the one in Spanish. Again, it's totally up to you and most likely, either would be fine.
