Hey everyone!

It seems like the problems never end.

I got my work authorization last Monday. On Friday I was at the SSA to change my address and name(in my new married name,as it appears on the work permit) and they told me they cannot find me in the USCIS system. They have to check the authenticity of the work permit and that takes up to 12 weeks.

was anybody here in this situation?

And I also would like to know if with the travel doc I can travel just to visit my family?Or is just for emergency situations?

Thank you guys!

have a nice weekend!

This is why I always say to stop at the SS office when driving home from the airport. Now you got into there system, good luck. This should have been done in 10 minutes, as soon as it went beyond that you were in trouble. If you cannot straighten thos out with a Supervisor, call your congressman and tell them you are being denied an SSN.

Yes, the AP can be used to visit home, it does not have to be an emergency

  • 4 weeks later...
Happened to me and I made a Infopass and had USCIS call SSA and fix it.

I wanna make an infopass.I got nothing from SSA yet. They told me they mailed the papers to USCIS and they are waiting for an answer.

How fast was USCIS in your case?

The appoinment was how far from the date you set it up?

Thanks!!

Happens all the time. SSN is best applied for immediately. Do not worry about the "DHS authorization" stamp. Once you have your GC you have your authorization. If you wait to get the SSN until your I-94 expires, or if you change your name from that on your ID (passport) you have to wait while they convulse. Best to get the card right away in maiden name, change name after AOS is complete at your leisure. The SS card itself is rather useless. I lost mine in the early 1970s, never replaced and haven't had a need for it since. The number is what matters. Your green card is your work authorization, not the SS card.

I got my EAD April 11th and went to SSA April 13th, when the officer check my Alien # she said it is not in their system yet cuz it will take weeks to be updated in their system. She told me to go back after 1 week but I didn't go cuz I was thinking maybe it is not yet in their system and will be wasting my time. My interview was April 21st and got my GC May 2 and until now I didn't go back to SSA to get a SSN. Cuz they might say again I have to wait more weeks to cuz it is not updated.

Now that I have my GC, Is there an assurance that my Alien # is already in their system?

I applied for my SSN on March 16th and I didn't hear from them yet...my I94 expired on April 23rd and I already filled for AOS and I really don't know what to expect now...the problem is that I need my SSN for my military I.D. cuz they will renew it to me just if I get a SSN and I need my military I.D. to get treatments at the hospital (I'm pregnant) inside the base where we are stationed at. I really don't know what to think about this! It seems like they take forever!

With US civil service employees involved, there are never any assurances. But there's only one way to find out for sure.

It's been more than a month already. No ssn.

Yesterady I was at USCIS(we had an infopass).

They try to call SSA and they said there is lady there that I should talk with but she's not in the office. The immigration officer left her a message. We waited like half an hour there. She never called back and the officer took my phone no in case she's calling back .We left USCIS and got no phone from anybody anymore.

USCIS told us that SSA is checking authentification of the documents with Virginia USCIS not with the local office. So suppossingly they mailed some papers there in virginia...

anyway..I don't know what to do.DMW is also a waste of time...They cannot process me a DL because the name on SSA doesn't match the name on the work authorization!

that;s so messed up

DO worry about the "DHS authorization" stamp. Once your 2 yr conditional GC expires, and you still have a card such captioned... complications complications.
