what does packet 3 contains? what documents are required for it

I believe there no longer is a package 3 for CR1/IR1. Essentially the DS-230 replaces that.

Package 4 would be your interview letter and instructions.

Yeah that the terms they used before for DS-230 packet

Just go through the state website and this website WIKI to get fimiliar with NVC processing so u dont confuse urself between different terms.

Jul 24,09 Pending,you can call every day for update but the day they call him for passport it means something is up so you get to know it before we do

Aug 06,09 Call from USEM requesting to submit passport

Aug 07,09 Every thing looks very good,visa issuance is up to the consulate!!!

Aug 07,09 Passport submitted

Aug 07,09 USEM is requesting applicant's passport :)

Aug 17,09-call 1 Visa issued Aug 3rd,EM recvd passport on 10th but still havent returned it

Aug 17,09-call 2 Case pending some kind of processing (URGHHHHHHHHH NOT AGAIN)

Aug 18,09 call to pick up passport,picked up from AMEX

Sep 26,09 REUNION :)

true...we had to wait for the packet 4 for my wife to get her medical exam done......never received a "packet 3"

Here what I received by e-mail for IR1 visa.

Packet 3 is Instruction Packet Agent, which is nothing but information & instruction about case.

Packet 4 is Appointment Cover Letter (interview letter).

02/17/2009: I-130 NOA2: Approved in 210 days from NOA1 date

I-129F (K-3):

08/11/2008: NOA1

<not pursuing I-129F petition further but NVC forwarded case to Consulate on 02/24/2009>

We went through NVC back in the days, AUG 2008 and e-mail wasn't even a thought then...never received any packet 3 and she is currently here with a 2 year green card...yudan is right, packet 3 is handled by NVC...
