Hello all:

I posted this about three weeks ago on another forum, didn’t get any answer. My interview is set for April 22, 2009 at 8:30 am. My passport is in my maiden name. When I sign my name for, let's say The Visa, should I sign my married name or my maiden name? I'm not saying I will received the Visa, but "IF" I should. Also a question on the X-Press post envelope, why is it so large? Will I be getting back the papers I sent, like police check, marriage certificate and so on? Am I suppose to write on the back of the X-Press post envelope their address? What is their address? I got that little sticker for signature required. I am having a difficult time organizing all my papers. Can I take my coat with me in the interview, I don’t want to leave it hanging some where, I saved for this coat, and I waited for this coat to go on sale, I don’t want to lose it. I know that sounds lame, but I wanted that coat for a long time..lol. Also, last question. My husband W-2 and income tax return says “copy “written all over it, for 2008, 2009. I got the tax papers for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. I also have the W-2 and tax return copies for 2008 and 2009. I also have pay stubs for each of those years. Will that do? I am Canadian, we do not do our taxes the same way. Yes, I’m nervous. And I do not like big cities, like Montreal, too much traffic .Very beautiful city, tho. Some good news to share, the Hotel Holiday Inn express is having a sale, just go on www. pacrim and friends, $69.00 a night. This is for a studio room .Kitchen and all, continental breakfast included.

Marie.

Relax...there is alot of great people here that will help you through this.

I do know the envelop is large and that because they send all your papers and passport back to you after the interview so you just put your address on the TO: portion and they will put their address on the FROM part. Just remember to write down the tracking number, so you can track it on the Canada Post website.

Hi, welcome!

Your passport is in your maiden name, therefore they will issue your Visa in your maiden name - you should probably sign with your maiden name. If in doubt, ask the CO at your interview.

Also a question on the X-Press post envelope, why is it so large? Will I be getting back the papers I sent, like police check, marriage certificate and so on? It's that large for no good reason. In that envelope they will return your passport and any originals you sent to NVC - except for the police certificate, they will keep that.

You can take your coat in with you.

I'm a bit unsure what you mean here, but if I am reading this correctly he got 'tax transcripts' from the IRS for 06-07-08? You also say 09, which I'm confused about, perhaps you can clarify what you mean by tax papers.

You then mention you have W2's and tax returns for 2008 and 2009. That's why I am confused, those are 'tax papers'.

To organize your paperwork, buy one of those plastic accordion file folders. Mine had 13 compartments, so was very easy to organize everything. They don't allow big bags into the consulate, so the accordion folder fits the bill!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hello Trailmix.

I like your answer on the X-press envelope. No good reason is right. What I am saying about my husband tax paper is that some are tax -transcript, like 2005, 2006. I have the W-2 for 2006,2007, 2008 . The tax papers are from H and R Block. I mean it's impossible to have originals. My husband check and he said that I worry too much and he gave me all that I need and more concerning his finances. Even a letter of employment , dated this March, 2009. Sorry about the 2009, tax papers, my mistake, meant 2008. I was told that they will ask for 2008.

You are so helpful, I mean all the people here are so helpful. I could not have made it this far without all of you. You all have the patiences of saints.lol. That means, I will be around for more question, because I never read pass the requirements after the Interview..lol. Enought is enought, for at least , now.

But, I will go back to Wal-Mart, get that plastic accordion files folder, which, BTW, my friends said , that should do. And your right it had 13 compartment, lol. Sheesh, kick me in the butt.

Oh I just thought of 1 other thing they send in the envelope, which is why they need a bigger size (not quite that big), they send you a 'do not open' brown envelope that you present at your port of entry - it has all the info they need in it to activate your visa.
