Hello awesome Vjrs!

Well to start, l have been living in Socal for over 4months now and yet l haven't seen or met a single Filipino around.

I was just wondering if anyone here has any idea where are the Filipino "tambayan" in southern ca or in orange county.. if any? I'm so freakin bored with my oh-so-nice and promising new life in the US. I thought i'd never feel this way but l gotta admit it,,, I'm totally HOMESICK! :crying::help: soooooooo bored and (lonely) i guess and it's driving me nuts! My husband works two job full time so when he gets home he would go straight to bed and get up in 3 hours and leave for his night gig. Well the economy is pretty bad this time and l understand he couldn't give up neither one gig yet. And I'm still waiting for my AED which we filed FEB.

Although it's just been a little over a month now it seems like 10 MILLION GOD DAMN YEARS!!!! of waiting.

l have a 4yr old daughter and she's the only thing in this world thats keeping me sane. l was even considering going back to manila for couple of weeks till l get my AOS or the interview. But l realized it wouldn't be such a good idea since l don't have AP docs. too. So basically, I'm stuck! can't do anything. NADA

OK. Bottom line is.... IF ANYBODY OUT THERE... THAT FEELS.... AND GOING THROUGH SAME THING LIKE I AM RIGHT NOW...

I WANT YOU TO SPEAK UP........ LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD.... AND.... LETS HANG OUT

Or please suggest any place where l can meet good people, not bunch of weirdo's. BTW, we now live in Santa ana cause my husband bought our new house here. I heard there's Filipino community here in Orange county, lf anybody have any idea about this l would really appreciate any suggestions or advice. You gotta help me here people or I'm just going to kill myself. LOL

Thanks

Hang in there, Alice. Your feelings are quite natural. You are starting a new life here, and it takes time to adopt SoCal as your new home. There are more filipinos in SoCal than any other part of the US. I hope you have TFC and GMA channels on your tv. I hope hubby takes you to Jollibee and Seafood City. I hope you find a Filipino Church,, and Fil-Am association. Think of the advantages you have here, than a Pinay in Oklahoma, or Wyoming. GudLuck to you, and you will be just fine! Cheers :star:

Correct Alice27, you're better off there in SoCal than me here in Kansas. I've been here for more than 2 years now but haven't met or knew any Filipino in my area. Our place is 2 hours going to Kansas City or Wichita or Tulsa, Oklahoma.

If I wanted to go to Chowking, Red Ribbon, Seafood City, or just to enjoy variety of Filipino foods, I fly to Las Vegas to visit my cousins. They would call me almost everyday if they're off from work in the hospital to ease up my homesickness (if ever I have :D ). We don't have TFC or GMA (I'm not a tv fan anyway when I was still in the Philippines) and it's sooooo hard to find the fruits and vegetables I wanted since I don't like eating beef or pork most of the time. Sometimes my cousins would call and tease me that they're cooking pinakbet or they're out eating la-ing or shrimp sinigang. :crying:

Anyway, feel lucky and be happy coz you're with the one you truly love. I'll be happy anywhere with my family :)

Never ever say never

Mmm I'm surprised u haven't met any filipino's yet. You and the hubby should drop by a filipino restaurant or so and ask around (i.e hangout nang mga kababayan, etc, any events or so. ^^;;

O.K thanks for such an overwhelming replies you guys!

I know seafood city in Cerritos and theres jollibee and filipino shop and some kind of canteen next to it. They also have chowking.

But you know, when you go there you go there to go grocery shopping or to eat. And l can't just bump into someone and make chicka like as if we know each other. Thats totally awkward! What l was longking for is some place where people make "tambay" of something like that. l like heard of this "little manila" place here in Ca, (if its still even exist). It'd be really nice to have someone to who speak the same language. I'm telling you guys here in Santa Ana? I'm surrounded with bunch of Mexican weirdo's! Most of them cant even speak and understand English

HAPPY EASTER!

You are off to a good start, Alice. You are in a location that has a Filipino population. The next step is trying to get involved in a social group of other filipinas. You might try a church, or Fil-Am association. From there, you make connections, and friends, and get invited to parties and people's homes. Just give it a little time, baby, and you will be just fine. Watch out for the gossipers, as they are so vicious, hehe. :star:

Where in SoCal are you? I'm from here too. We can meet me if you want. PM me. You might want to go to National City. I've been here for 3 weeks na. Are you kidding me? SoCal is so nice, I never get bored here. The weather is perfect! For now, I just stay at home too, my fiance is a workaholic and he is always home by 6PM or 7PM then we drive out and dine and if we just decide to stay home, we make our dinner together while playing music and in the evening, we watch movies on demand. Westfield UTC mall is just at the back of our home, so I can go there anytime. I went there thrice alone. The first one was during my 4th day here. You've go to love SoCal especially once you'll meet some friends. Take care always.

Eto na lang mas presentable. Hehehe.

Why not try to make yourself busy? Life here in the USA is far different from the Philippines that you can just go to your neighbor and make chitchat, and beside you're still on the stage of adjustment. Reading, sewing, crochet, cooking, gardening, learn how to play guitar/piano this things makes you busy, and learn how to speak/undertstand Spanish language as well.

Hi from Huntington Beach.just arrived here few mos ago. Yah same as your delimma I'm stuck and bored sometimes, coz I don't have Filipino friends here, and I appreciate my hubby for making thing a little bit easier for me like hang out with his friends, going to asian store.but yah it's not the same when you have a conversation with fellow Filipino/filipina so sometimes i cant connect to the whole conversation, but i know its a process adopting to a new environment, just Thinking positive right now,I've been to Santa few weeks ago its quite far, I heard there's a bunch of Filipinos live on that area. So maybe we can sometime hang out sometime.have a good day.

You're answering a 3-year-old thread. However, the OP logged onto VJ in early May 2013, so maybe she'll see your post. Otherwise, perhaps send her a personal message.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
