One thing I learned buying glasses from Cambodia is that eventhough they are cheap, it also breaks easily. I was so diasspointed when it happened to me because while I was wearing it, it broke while I was driving. I'm near sighted. I had a very tough time getting back home.

Once again, that's why I keep a backup pair in my car. :)

I heard Wal-Mart Eyeglass Center is one of the cheapest around.

If you're getting the frame, I'd suggest you go with Titanium versus Gun Metal frames. Gun Metal is more brittle than Titanium. Therefore, gun metal is weaker in terms of strength compared to Titanium and will break easier.

Whenever I've heard the phrase "gun metal" used when talking about eyeglass frames, it was always in reference to color. Titanium is a good suggestion, though. So are Flexon frames. Very few people can actually break those. I'm just "lucky" in that I have managed to do so what others have failed. :P

I tried plastic and gun metal frames but I have never tried titanium. In fact, I have never heard titanium frames hehe. I guess that is something I might wanna try.

Oh! I just searched titanium eyeglasses and now I know what they look like. Those are the kind of frames that my dad likes. I didn't know that they are called titanium eyeglasses til now :bonk:

For the last 4 years, Ive been getting my eyeglasses from this website:

http://www.39dollarglasses.com/

I wear this pair,

http://www.39dollarglasses.com/3516_BlackCrystal.html

I wear the plastic ones, and I used to get the same pair at costco for 130 dollars, and i thought i was getting a deal.

Basically, you first pick a frame for 40 dollars, then you add the basic lens; you can add stuff to the lens like anti glare, anti scratch and then that adds up to 20 dollars or so; then shipping; at the end of the day, i get my glasses for a total of 70 dollars.

For the eye exam i go to the local walmart and pay 40 dollars. So all in all, 110 dollars; now, I also get coupons here and there so i can take off 5 to 10 dollars for the glasses.

Last time I went to the eye doctor, the lady there didnt believe me I got my glasses for 70 dollars because the same pair at walmart with the anti scratch, anti glare on the lens, came out to 150 dollars---and that was the cheapest glasses that resembled the one I have.

I had plastic frames and they last for a long time, through college. They are heavier than the titanium ones. I got the Flexon Titanium Alloy ones.

I had plastic frames too when I was in college but they didn't last long for me. The gun metal I just broke was 2 years and 7 months old and those are the oldest frames I had.

Thanks for sharing this 39dollar site, just made an order today for my husband a bendable titanium progressive lens with transitions and anti-glare/scratch...i paid $223. Unlike before, his Oliver's glass alone cost more than $300 then another fee of those transitions and anti-glare/scratch.

Thanks for sharing this website, I've been wondering where I can get affordable eyeglasses since I got here. I wear contact lenses but I have my eyeglasses on most of the time when I'm home.

I would say that the 39dollar is a lot more cheaper. Got my plastic eyeglass from the jcpenny and with progressive transition lens and anti-glare/scratch I paid $380. I ordered for my husband yesterday a bendable titanium with progressive transition lens and anti-glare/scratch just paid $223.90 and today they emailed us that they will ship our order after 4 days through USPS.

i bought titanium readers in china for about $40. my wife wears contacts, and has her sister ship them over for about $35 a set and $20 packaging/shipping. If you buy them 3-4 sets at a time, the savings is significant. hard to get used to a chinese woman who has blue eyes one day, then black, then green, then tiger yellow, but with the spray blue hair tints, it's kinda cool.
