Arabic names with an "h" are hard for Americans to pronounce...including myself. My husband gets irritated when people pronounce our sons name as "Meddy".

Really? Cause I wanted that name...or Mahmoud but they have the same "h"...I was thinking of changing it to Mehadi so you have to say the "h" but IDK

BTW your son is adorable Mashallah-love the bib :)

Thank you , you're so sweet. It probably would not be a problem for you since you are Moroccan and you can well pronounce his name to everyone. My problem is that I can't properly say it or when I do strive to say it correctly, I sound like I'm struggling to cough up a fur ball or something.

Congratulations!!

My name votes: Idriss, Idir, Ali, Tariq :)

I also love Idris because it's Arabic AND Welsh. It is said to mean "ardent, impulsive lord" and "prophet", among other things. I also read that it was popular in the Middle Ages and is now enjoying a revival. (So maybe young Idris will be one of three or four in his class!)

Edited by ValentinesWedding

My heart has adopted every shape.

It has become a pasture for gazelles,

And a convent for Christian monks,

And a temple for idols,

And a pilgrim's Ka'ba,

The tables of a Torah,

And the pages of a Qu'ran.

I follow the religion of love.

Wherever love's camels turn,

There love is my religion and my faith.

Ibn al'Arabi, "Tarjuman al-Ashwak" (13th century)
