I was looking at names tonight Im asking for suggestions Please !!! :star::star::star:

Congrats Melinda!

I like the name Omar bcz its a bible name and arab name. Omar was the father of the arab tribe in Genesis. :)

The boy's name Omar \o-mar\ is pronounced OH-mar. It is of Arabic and Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "speaker; flourishing, long-lived". Biblical: a sheik of Edom and son of Esau. Omar Khayyam (12th century) was a Persian poet, astronomer, and mathematician. Caliph Omar II made Islam an imperial power. Poet Omar Khayyam; General Omar Bradley; actor Omar Sharif.

OMG I love the name Omar too but my husband is dead set on Adham, which is *ok* but I know the kids would call him Adam. I also like Ali since it's simple.

There are a lot I like (some may be used more in Morocco than Egypt, but I don't know). Here's my list so far:

Apparently fairly popular in Morocco:

Ahmed, Rachid, Khalid, Driss, Brahim, Hicham, Jamal (hubby's name :luv: ), Lahcen, Karim, Ibrahim, Zakaria, Rayan, Ilias or Ilyas (that one may be used more by Jewish Moroccans but I'm not sure), Zahr, Zinedine (Zizou is the diminutive, which I like :) ), Zain, Habib, Tarik, Reda, Asad, Rami, Rani, Mehdi

Other Arabic names I like:

Amir, Hadi, Jabir, Jibril, Kadin, Kalil, Laith, Nuri, Zaki, Zeke

I do like Omar very much as well, just have trouble picturing our baby boy with that name, sounds so solemn to me -- I'd probably end up calling him Omi or Omri (L) though I don't know what the real diminutive is. And there are lots more I like the more I hear them or see them or read their meanings, including just about every one mentioned in the thread thus far, just haven't had a chance to add everything to the list. It's very difficult to narrow it down. I also want something fairly easy for Americans to read and pronounce, i.e. prolly nothing with a 3 or a 7 in it.

Congratulations, and have fun choosing Amir's baby brudda's name!

I'm the USC.

Congrats!! I read somewhere in this topic that your first son's name is Amir, if so, the name Amin (or Ameen) would go well. The name means honest, or trustworthy---it's also very easy to pronounce in the US (it's my brother's name and he's been fine with it).

Ohh I like Rayan too. I've heard an American name fairly close to that. I also of course like Khalil - so far it's been fairly easy for Americans to handle.

Good point. I've heard that one so much that it didn't strike me as difficult. I guess almost any Arabic name is difficult for non-Arabic speakers to get just right. My husband laughs at the way his coworkers pronounce his name (like "J'maul" with hardly any first syllable), but he's gotten used to it, and at least it's in the ballpark.

Good News Melinda!!!

I hope you are feeling fine during this pregnancy.

As far as names, I dont know many arabic names, other than the more popular ones.

I search from time to time just to get ideas for what I like, if and when the time would come for us to have a baby.

Good Luck!

Something we considered when naming our babies was finding names that worked for my husband's family in Morocco and for my family here. We ended up with Zakaria for the boy. Both sides of our family love the name. My family especially loves that we are not afraid to call him Zak or Zaki. The other top name for us was Brahim (after my husband's father). My husband felt strongly that his son should have a quranic name.

Arabic names with an "h" are hard for Americans to pronounce...including myself. My husband gets irritated when people pronounce our sons name as "Meddy".
