I've been reading that some people have their EAD cards taken away at their AOS Interview... Why would they do this, and what do you do for proof of eligibility for employment between the time they take away the EAD Card at the interview, and the time your Green Card comes?????

We just got his in February and he has not found a job yet... the idea that he will be without one again for who knows how long is disconcerting... unless I missed something... or misunderstood something...

Can anyone explain?

The EAD is void as soon as the AOS is approved. You no longer need a EAD if you have been approved. If your husband has job interviews lined up for just after his interview then you can ask the interviewing officer for the I-551 stamp (temp greencard) that will cover employment and travel.

Most people get their greencard within 2 weeks of being approved.

Good question. Especially considering we received Alla's EAD AFTER the green card. She still has both, no one asked for it back though it is rather useless right now. We also received her AP after AOS approval. I had not heard they ask for it back. They may, if they know he has one, ask you to bring it. I had heard they took the I-94 and put a stamp in the passport but they did not do that for us, in fact we asked them to and they said they did not give the I-551 stamp unless it was "an emergency" and just to wait for the green card. Maybe it is the policy of that office, I don't know. The green card came within two weeks.

This must mean that they tell you at the interview if you are approved or not... what if they took the EAD and then they didn't approve you for some reason, like wanting a document or something.. we'd be right back where we started... Up that creek without that paddle...

I'm hoping that they don't ask for it... if they do I'm going to beg for the stamp because he is just getting to the point of being seriously considerted for 2 jobs... Has an orientation on Saturday that is a prelude to a job the next week... we have our interview on Monday after his orientation... Great timing...

He's trying to get the drivers license done this week as we have heard it's hard to get if you don't have something that shows you are here legally and if they take everything away we're worse off than we are now.. UNLESS they PROMISE it will come in 2 weeks... then we could tolerate it, maybe... but I know there are NO promises in this system... :jest:

Our "interview" consisted almost entirely of being told we were approved and what to do for the lifting of conditions, when to file for it, etc. He also gave Alla some procures on becoming a citizen, welcome to the USA etc. I understand they do not always say if you are approved or not at the interview.
