Does any one know how police clearing certificate works in India (GUJARAT). I am really getting confused here. My wife just got her passport two days ago and she had to go through the police clearing before getting the passport. Now they want an application and passport in AHEMDABAD (GUJARAT) for four weeks to give the police clearance certificate. What the hell is going on here. This seems really really odd. It should not take more than a day to get this certificate. If anyone know about procedure to get a police clearance certificate in India please help me. Thanks

han

how can yr wife go for PCC without passport?? passport copies are must before you go for police station. if yr wife has just got passport and if its not older than 6 months than no need of passport clearance.

now PCC of district , if yr wife has applied without passport copies than just give one application ,its not issue... may be they wan you to give something and so they are harassing you, in my case they said they will take 10 days and when we offered what they want, on the same day i got PCC from district police......

in passport office if they are harassing you just meet the heigher official lets say the controller and adviser in tht office and explain him yr situation he will surely help. thrs lot of corruption in govt offices dont panic talk straight forward to the topic.. and if necessary take help of some influential person ,i'd seen some cases in ahmedabad like tht.those whi had some connections in office or police got clearance without difficulty.

it actually take 2-3 days to get PCC from district police. and in passport office it takes 5 business days. they take yr passport and in 5 days post by speed post along with clearance. make sure you sumit all necessary documents. and in passport office 300 rupees is official fees for clearance

Case complete: 04-20-09

Interview date: 06-08-09

Check the link; I am just quoting few lines:

Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3582.html

Contact your local police station for Police Clearance Certificate as your passport issued within past 6-months.

Agreed with WaitHatter, there is a couple of threads in that forum which have the full detail. Also, obtaining the Passport clearance certificate will require multiple visits since this particular office makes things difficult. Since your passport was just issued, you do not need to obtain the local police clearance certificates, which should save you some time.

They are right. If you want passport clearance certificate, you have to submit passport and form. I do not know how much time they will take but my wife got it in a week from Kolkata passport office. May be it varies from place to place in India.
