Even if we're able to saved for it for two months, sometimes I can't stop thinking that it's too much for an instant one-time payment and you have to wait 4-14 months for approval. What if they spread the amount over the average period of waiting?

$545 is still a lot of money - it can buy a month supply of my baby's hypoallergenic formula :P . Maybe I will just think that I lost it in an investment when the stock market crash so I will feel a little better about it

Not exactly 24 monthly easy payments with 0% interest and if you are unsatisfied with the service, no refunds. If you make an error on your application, they can keep your fee and reject your application.

They seem to be an entirely different USCIS very quickly forgetting they put us through a living hell just 21 months prior in the AOS stage, want to see all that same evidence again like you never applied before plus a lot more evidence you have to gather during that 21 month period.

The green card is not that much different, thought I was getting screwed by our state by now charging 30 bucks for an eight year drivers' when it use to be five bucks, but they also do biometrics, do an ID check, but if the line isn't too long, can get it done within 5-10 minutes. But that 30 bucks seems to be a bargain compared to what the USCIS charges and you do all the work in filling out the form and spending hours gathering evidence. For the drivers' license, you can walk in at anytime they are open, and our state even sends us a reminder. USCIS doesn't do any of that, you just wait for a return letter that for the most part, looks exactly the same as that pile of junk mail each of us receives. But that piece of paper you get tells you if you are legal or not, you better not lose it.

If they screw up on your kid and send your green card over 90 days from your kid, you have to pay another 545 bucks.

When you apply for the N-400 for USCIS, same thing again, they completey forgot what they put you through for the AOS and that ten year card, oh, and that ten year card is only good for nine years and nine months, have to go through all that again.

But since there are only 140,000 of us per year, we are a huge minority, so no one in congress interested in helping us, USCIS claims congress makes the laws, but the congressman I have talked to have no idea what's going on with the USCIS.

I'm glad my husband not aware of how long the approval for removing of condition is (I just told him I already got the 1 year extension) or else he'll be a grouch throughout the waiting period and I can't stand that. He's been a pain when we are still processing my CR-1 visa and I bet he'll be worse with I-751 considering of how much he paid for it :D He would be bothering me day and night of everyday about the updates!

I guess I have more than enough patience to wait for 12 months for approval; I don't care anyway as long as I have my rights and previleges as a legal resident. Of course, with careful planning and doing my math, I always have a fallback just in case  .

Hi Everyone,

OMG...is that how much it costs for baby forumla ? Gee, thanks a lot USCIS for starving my baby! On the other hand I can always breastfeed, as the USCIS has "milked me dry financial-wise", and I don't have much of a choice here financial-wise...

Sigh, nice to know too, as I'm going to have to soon surrender another $670 when I file for US Citizenship this year (and I still haven't gotten my I-751 approved yet either, so I wasted $545 there already)...

There goes my baby's food, diapers, clothes, cleaning supplies, healthcare, toys, etc, and other basic baby essentials....

Oh well, might as well start saving now for citizenship....I have another 4 more months to do such....(and no, I'm not delaying this any further, as I want a "divorce" with the USCIS asap!)

On the other hand, my baby will be a US Citizen...lucky for them they don't have to go through this costly process of immigration with the USCIS!

Actually I've exclusively breastfed my baby for the first 3 months but it's not enough for her growing demands. I lost 14 lbs (I'm down to 101 lbs from my normal 115 lbs and still losing) which made my husband worried for my health. I have no choice but to give formula if the baby cry for more milk after she sucked me dry. Your baby will be very lucky if you'll be able to breastfeed exclusively until 12 months or longer.

She's 15 months now and drinking her milk in a cup, but she just can't drink any cow's milk due to persistent rashes. The doctor prescribed hypoallergenic milk for kids that cost more than $45 per small can that will last only for 3 days. It's a good thing that she never got sick (even just a low fever during teething) that's why we're able to save for the USCIS fee ;) . I'm saving up now for the naturalization fees since I'm anticipating another increase before my eligibility period comes next year :( . It's weirdly funny to see an USCIS item in my household budget worksheet.

Hi Ricebird,

Likewise, I plan to ebfing for as long as I can too, as besides the financial savings associated with it, there are also additional health and other benefits associated with doing that too. I just hope that it works out for me though, otherwise I'll have to factor in formula too on our ever-so-tight family budget. Sorry that ebfing didn't work for you and that you experienced health problems because of that. Neverthless, it's good that you stuck it out for the first 3 months, so at least your baby got the health benefits of that.

Glad to hear too your baby is doing well with her hypoallergenic milk. Even though it costs more for the special milk, it is definitely worth it for her not to be sick, which also saves on other costs too. In this aspect, I say that it's certainly a "better investment" to be buying formula than it is to be wasting it on the USCIS.

Lol...for what the USCIS charges, they should throw in free cans of formula too!

I agree, it's weird to see the "USCIS" as a household budget item next to "baby expenses" and "other important expenses". Oh well, we do what we have to do. And no, I'm not cutting down on the baby expenses because of this either...

No surprise really too, that the USCIS will dare increase the fees again for naturalization and other immigration processes. I just don't think that it's right that they do this so frequently and at so much higher fees. For example, look at the I-751, which went from $180 to $545 within a year...seems wrong to me....

Especially during these hard economic times, can't they understand that people work hard for their money and that it is very difficult to part with such to the USCIS?

In the meantime, all we can do is save up as much as we can and pay them sooner than later, so that we can eventually "get rid of the USCIS" asap...

Oh Ant, we have some advantages with our babies and we need not cut their expenses. We can claim them as dependents and get more deductions from our taxes (child tax credit and additional child tax credit :D ) not counting the child day care expenses(if you will use one), etc . We'll get back some of the amount we pay to USCIS through IRS  .
