Quick ? on Tax info

I know that year 2 and 3 are optional for the I-864. If I send the transcripts only will this be sufficient or do they want all or nothing? W-2 are packed in the basement and we are remodeling so it's a huge inconvenience to pull them out.

You need to send the W2's as well, Let nothing that is requested be too inconvenient when it comes to something as important as this. Dig if you have to dig but send everything that they ask for. You do not want to get a RFE now would you? They RFE me for something that wasn't even on the list. Dont give them a chance to put your case on hold.

If you choose not to send year two and three like I did then just don't send it at all as it is indeed optional

The I-864 instructions clearly says following:

"You must provide either an IRS transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year. If you believe additional returns may help you to establish your ability to maintain sufficient income, you may submit transcripts or photo copies of your Federal individual income tax returns for the three most recent years."

To me, this says, sending IRS transcript is sufficient. My AOS has not been accepted yet. But all I've sent is 2005 to 2007 IRS transcripts. So, IMO, if you've IRS transcripts, it should work.

You mean to say (transcript(s) OR tax return(s) ) AND with all schedules and attachments?

It has to be (transcript(s)) OR (tax return(s) with all schedules and attachments) since schedules are part of tax returns, right?

In either case, I think it's fine. I know of people whose case got completed just with transcript alone (w/o W2s, 1040s, etc). So that's why I sent transcripts only.

Waldo - It's your choice, you can definitely play safe and send both. I'll let you know if I run into any issues..

Thanks. It all makes sense, I'm going to go without seeings how the transcripts are a lot less confusing then sorting through the mess of W-2's.

Only sent in tax transcripts for last 3 years and completed nvc with no issues. Goodluck
