Congratulations on taking that first step! Don't get caught up in all the drama and worrying that you see over in the case filing forum, it's a pretty straight forward process. And always feel free to ask the experts around here. :)

Alla and I met in Kiev. I was going to take her for a walk around the block from our rental apartment to St. Sophia but the day was cold and snowy.

She announced that she just wanted to stay in the apartment and practice her English and keep each other warm

So I proposed to her there in the apartment in Kiev with the outline of St. Sophia Cathedral in the background out the windows.

She said yes and we kept warm

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

You're story is better than mine. He never asked me. He just said he would marry me "tomorrow if I could." I asked him if that meant he was asking me to marry him and he never really answered. Somehow, I went back and did a formal contract of this limbo. I asked him about this a couple of times since, and he finally asked me to marry him the other day, telling me to please stop asking him for a proposal already. ;) He buys me nice flowers though, I figured he was going to make an honest woman out of me someday. he still has never officially given me his phone number. I had that from paperwork. He is holding out on me.

(yes, that is the real story.)

Starbucks may not be quite so romantic, but how many Americans can say the proposed to their wife in Moscow? :)

Awww, but Mox is right-- you can say you did it in Moscow! I imagine I could add more to the story i have, but religious and cultural no-nos abound in telling a private moment like this, so I've got to keep the trap shut :) Honestly, whenever you decide to do it *is* the right time and the most romantic. Being asked is amazing, even if the circumstances are not the same as some billion-dollar Hollywood movie. ;)

My husband proposed to me in Hayat hotel(in California) very unexpected:)

We had a dinner in the restaurant inside hotel, because i liked food there and then he said he is taking me on the roof to show me the view.On the way to the roof he pulled out the key and opened the room,I was like what are you doing?!

Wow!

Those all trump my - one day, about three years into it, we were talking on the phone and marriage came up, I was like "so should we just get married then?" Her answer, "Yes of course I want to get married." Me- "OK then, I guess we'll get married someday." And that was it. Finally, two or three more years on down the road I started the paperwork.

Romance is my middle name. (Wow, room full of roses, canles and bended knee...... I'm definitely not that guy. Although, I should probably study up a little. I remember the other stories about the French Maid outfits and whatnot. He's definitely on to something there!)
