Obx-Aww...That's a sweet thing to do...To read to your boys and then have them read back to you...(L)....

Definitely recommended for good family time together..:)...

I bet you when your sons have children, they will continue the same traditions too....:)

I'm just getting starting about reading to my son at night/during the day..He might be a little bit young to understand though..But at least I'm starting somewhere...lol....We just read the Velveeteen Rabbit again...

Hmmm...I haven't heard of William Steig...I'll have to check his books out sometime...What are his stories about? And what age/reading range are his books targeted at?

And yes, I remember Robert Munsch (I think he was Canadian too...lol...)!

I loved that "Love you forever" book! I wonder if they have a copy of that here in the USA....I'll have to ask the library about that one...Lol..either that, or find a copy of it in Canada to buy...

I remember the poem..."I love you forever and ever and always, as long as you're living my baby you'll be...." And the final illustration of the boy with the mother in his arms...lol....(yeah, that one left me kind of mushy too...)

I also liked that Munsch book about the kid named Andrew that had to go pee..What was it again? It was funny to see the kid in the snowsuit...lol....Then there as that one that had the song..clang, clang, rattle, bing, bang...I'm going to make my noise all day...What was that one again? Mortimer, I think? Lol...I'll have to look up the Munsch stuff....A definite must read, Munsch!

Rofl...When I told my husband about Robert Munsch..He thought I meant Edward Munsch (the one that did that scream painting)...:bonk: Never mind, I guess I'll have to explain to him about Canadian literature....

Thanks for the suggestions....:)

Happy reading to you and your sons too!

Ant

i am sure they do.. the kids I babysit have that book

The William Steig books are a bit off the wall and probably for slightly older kids ( I'd say 5 and up) but I really like them.

Ant you should be able to find Robert Munsch anywhere. (Check out this link for some library suggestions...http://www.robertmunsch.com/booklist.cfm )

Of course there is always the Berenstain Bears series and as your son gets older the Magic School Bus series.

ok, finished the Nine Lives of Charlotte Taylor and am just starting the witch doctor's wife by Tamar Myers. It is somewhat of a departure from her usual fare as it is 'based on the author's own experiences" in Africa in the 1950s, but it is still, apparently, a murder mystery.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Just finished Freedom TM by Daniel Suarez - the sequel to Daemon - really good, and a little scary being that all technology mentioned is currently available.

Marilyn and OBX-It makes sense that they would have the book here too, as Munsch is a pretty well-known author. Lol..I just haven't seen it around here, that's all...Maybe I should look harder..;)

I'll check out that robertmunsch website too. Thanks for the link.

Thanks OBX for recommending the Steig books...I'll look into that too, to see what that's all about.

Lol..I remember the Berenstain Bears series! I read them as a kid! Heck, I think I might still have one of the books somewhere...Yup, we all love Papa, Mama, Brother, Sister, Dr. Grizzly, and the rest of the bears! Those are timeless!

I remember when the Magic School Bus series came out too...I think I first heard about it when it debuted on tv though...

It was cool to see the animations of the bus going all over the place..Galaxies, Underwater, the Body, etc....

Gotta love Ms. Frizzle, Liz the lizard, and the rest of the class! Lots of science info in the show and books!

All this talk about kids/children's books have got me excited about looking for books like this in the library/bookstore!

Thanks, everyone..:) Happy Reading to all too! :star:

John Irving's Last Night in Twisted River - hard to get into cause I don't have much time to read at the moment but I'm really enjoying it. I also love his book The Hotel New Hampshire.

Can't even watch the video, :crying: I used to sing part of it as well. Doesn't help that I just got off the phone with my kids.

 My favourite author! I found Last Night in Twisted River a bit hard to get into as well but then every time I put it down I had to pick it up again. I can't think of a single book of his that I didn't like.

My favorite book of all time is Wuthering Heights. I have probably read it about 50 times.

But right now I just finished Rant by chuck palahniuk.

I have read quite a few of his books! He is fantastic

Your book club likes rather heavy going material. I had to read Moby ####### for a Uni english class and i jumped up and down on the book when I finished shouting 'I hate you' because it was such hard work, and obviously I hated it :)

Uncle Tom's Cabin is good. I suggest that your book club tries Great Expectaions and Gone with the Wind. Two favourites of mine.

I just finished Sarah Waters 'The Night Watch' and I'm just starting 'The Mammoth Cheese' by Sheri Holman.
