Yeah, it was made into a movie starring Leo Di Caprio. Never watched it myself but I hear it's not as good as the film.

Some of my favorite works:

Arundhati Roy -- God of Small Things

Salman Rushdie -- Midnight's Children

Margaret Atwood -- Oryx and Crake

The Secret History -- Donna Tartt

The House of Blue Mangoes -- David Davidar

Currently reading Warrior Rising by P.C. Cast. I need a little bit of mindless romance in my diet.

Then I'm going to finish the Emperor series by Conn Iggulden. Now his stories are fantastic. They follow two boys, Gaius Julius Caesar and Marcus Brutus from childhood to adulthood. It's historically accurate for the most part, but of course because it's fiction, there are some things that just didn't fly in ancient rome.

I'm reading Living History by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I figure it's a round about way of learning about US government and values, plus... I love a bit of scandal!

It's actually a really good book although I'm pretty sure she's omitted quite a lot of juicy stuff.

I love that series. I was totally taken in by "Gates of Rome" and couldn't but the series down. His Conqurer series on Genghis Khan is also very riviting but I'm a sucker for Historical Fiction

If that was a book, I would already have read it. That woman baffles me. Can she even write? "I hear Europe is a wonderful country." I rest my case.

I just finished that! It was excellent. I plan on going to see the movie this week and I'll see if they have done a good job of being faithful to the book. I highly recommend this book to everyone - it is unexpected and haunting (pun intended) not in a bad way but a very thought-provoking way.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Currently reading Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane. It too is about to be a movie in February 2010. So far it's fantastic! It's about 2 US Marshals that are called to an island which is home to a hospital for the criminally insane. In the book, one of the patients, Rachel Solando, a "vicious" murderess has gone missing. They say she vanished straight out of her cell, yet it was locked and all the windows had not been tampered with but she also let a note with a puzzle. Who is 67? There is currently 66 patients at the institution...so who is 67?

I didn't know it was a book. I've seen the previews for the film and really want to see it. I will have to read the book first though. I will download it to my Kindle today!

I read the book when it first came out and enjoyed it. For some reason I'm not that interested in seeing the movie. Not sure why.

Ditto. But it's been a number of years since I read it so it probably won't matter to me if they change the story on the movie. lol

Nice to see you again, Stacey. :)

Isnt it a really well written book? I found it funny and sad and really deep. And I also found the focus to be very different... I was surprised at how much I loved it.

My MIL read good reviews about the movie... but I think that it will deviate from the book storyline... tell me about it when youve seen it ok :D

Sarah Palin has many faces: hockey mom, fundamentalist Christian, sex symbol, Republican ideologue, fashion icon, "maverick" populist. But, above all, Palin has become one thing: an American obsession that just won't go away. Edited by two senior editors at The Nation magazine, this sharp, smart, up-to-the-minute book examines Palin's obscure origins in Wasilla, Alaska, her spectacular rise to the effective leadership of the Republican Party, and the nightmarish prospect of her continuing to dominate the nation's political scene.

And regarding, The Lovely Bones. The beginning was fantastic. The starting chapter really hooked me but then...it started to get really dull. I finished it and the ending made me very very angry. I raged for a good 10 minutes after reading it.
