aloha,

our first time around (for k-1 fiance visa) it was pretty easy ($10, 30 minutes) to get the necessary police report for my fiance.....

....however, the next time around (for spouse cr-1) as my wife now has an american last name - they want $400us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

would you just use the first one, albeit its a couple of years old with perhaps, a little note describing of this problem?

or would you cave-in to these creeps and pony up the $400?

bad enough she gets over-charged on nearly anything when she must show her passport.

yes, this amazing country is cambodia!

well, she is now "rich"......not!!

SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION - after my wife made it to the USA, family emergency neccesatated her immediate return to her home in cambodia. unfortunately before she was able to adjust her status, thus the case was abandanded. we now are filing both k-3 (married in usa) and have petioned both i-129f and 1-130 .....so, our "journey" has once again began. thank you for all your help and understanding - appleegg and sreyon.

uhm... here's what I think you should ask your wife to do.

I live in the Philippines, this means i'm living in a corruption ridden country too. Base on my experience, usually if your wife goes through a third party to apply for police clearance, they will charge her for "fees". What I would do is get the direct phone number of the agency that issues the certificate. Ask for the appropriate fee, without mentioning any details. Then try to call again the next day and see if they are of the same price. Ask them if they will issue an official receipt for it. DO NOT ask anybody to file or get it for her. Lots of people will represent themselves as expert at this and that and that they will make your life easier and that they will discourage you to go through the proper channel. DO NOT believe them. Ask your wife to go directly to the police agency and get it herself.

I have no idea what it is like in her place, but if they are asking for a price that is not legal, haggle and bargain your way to it. Tell them that some relative is sick or something (I know it's lying, hold your conscience for a few hours) and that you don't have the money anymore and she just want to be with her hubby. You can ask your wife to hint that she will personally give a token or gift to the officer in exchange. This maybe illegal in some countries... but if what you say is true and the government is corrupt, it just might work.

Good luck!
