I was looking at the nursing license requirements for my state and it says I need either the license or diploma that permits me to practice nursing in my home country. All I have is diploma, no license. Does anyone know if I can still get licensed in USA? Or do I need a license from Philippines? THANKS!

Eto na lang mas presentable. Hehehe.

Hey Kardi,

When you apply to the state board of nursing in what-ever state you will be living in they will do an FBI backgroung check. Since you will not have anything on that report maybe it will be a good idea to submit a Police Clearance from the Phils to them. you don't want to have to go through the trouble of trying to get a clearance from the Phils after you are already here, so bring one or two with you.I dont know that it is required but it is just a thought. You should check with the BON in the state you will live. Post you state and maybe someone else can give more specific info.check out this website for good NCLEX study practice.http://198.146.4.5/nclexrn3500/mainMenu. I use it alot. Good luck

Find the Board of Nursing website of the state where you plan to work as a nurse and you will find a great deal of information.

In Florida, for foreign graduate nurses, a nursing diploma will suffice to take the NCLEX-RN , BUT, it is also a requirement that before the Board gives the authority to take the NCLEX-RN, your nursing education from the Philippines be evaluated if it is comparable to the nursig degree here.

Goodluck.

Removal of Conditions :

August 16, 2010 - Petition received by USCIS Vermont Center

August 20, 2010 - NOA1 received

October 4, 2010 - Biometrics

January 3, 2011 - Permanent 10 yr. Green Card Received.

In California, the board of nursing just required the applicant to submit fingerprint card for FBI background check.

There are states that do not require license from the country of origin. California is one of those. You will just submit photocopy of your diploma and a written explanation of not having a license. When your nursing education will be evaluated, you will be required by the Cali BON to submit copy of your transcript of records which is coming directly from your school and not from your personal copy.

In case your state requires license from PI, you may apply licensure by endorsement in that state after taking and passing the NCLEX-RN from other state which does not require PI license.

Thats InCorrect

Each State had it own requirments.

Most want at least a CES (Credentials Evalution Services) from a 3rd Party, a few number of states require a Licenses from PI, some require only an application.

Never heard of submitting a PI police clearance for a nursing license in USA. The Background check is run by the FBI in USA.

California is now wanting a local Licenses from PI to sit for NCLEX, IF you don't have it that want a explantion from the PRC why you didn't take local licenses

Really??? Where did you get that info? How come I got my eligibility notice from California Board of Nursing this week without license from PI?

OP, just refer from this website http://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/lic-exam.shtml for more info.

I am sharing my first hand knowledge when I applied in Cali BON.

I am helping someone apply to California BON, Since I took care of my wife paperwork with the Texas BON...

When did you apply to California BON?

Since around February of this year if you didn't have your local licenses then you could submit an explanation to the BON.

Lately they want a explantion from the PRC to the California BON.

Per the website :

B. Submit a copy of your license or diploma that allows you to practice professional nursing in the country where you were educated. If you do not hold a license, a written explanation is required. Also, provide copies of your certificates for midwifery and psychiatric nursing, if applicable.

When did you apply to California BON?

I completed my file for application 3rd week of March due to the delay of my TOR from my school.

When I applied in Cali BON, I was using the same content of their webpage.

B. Submit a copy of your license or diploma that allows you to practice professional nursing in the country where you were educated.

That is either license or diploma...It works on me with my diploma alone.

In addition to my post, in lieu to the PI license, I just submitted written explanation why I opted not to take or have PI license anymore.
