I bet your DNS resolver is misconfigured.

What do you have in your /etc/resolv.conf? You should have at least one valid nameserver in there.

It could be a multitude of problems.

Check the DNS config file. It probably may have deleted the location of the nameserver. On the other hand, your chances of experiencing this is rare.

Check also in Firefox - > Advance Tab -> Network Tab -> Settings

The proxy should be bubbled "No Proxy Server."

If you're using a DSL account, maybe there's a network account login that you need to default to constantly login for internet access. DSL is not the same as cable.

Or, if you're using a router configure the router to PPPoE and specify the login parameters.

If you want to install a package that you obtained externally, try using TERMINAL. At the prompt, type 'su' and then it'll ask you for your username and password. This will allow you administration privilege which probably let you install the drivers. The new version of Ubuntu will let you drag and drop a package into the command prompt just like Windows.

If you cannot install those package after using a 'su' account, then the package must be purchased. Some drivers requires that you buy them to use them. I find it strange but it happened to me when I tried obtaining a wireless network driver for PRISM PCMCIA.

Post your updates!

Is it some sites or all pages not loading?

Are you still in Vietnam? If that's the case you might be running into government filters/firewall. You can get around it, but its a bit more work.
