You don't think it hurt? Or you think it was a sexual experience for either the men, or the woman or both?
For the Taliban men, possibly (as their basic training/indoctrination has been since 1980's along the lines of those of Nazi-era SS--consequently they probably do get hard-on from inflicting pain).

0i vey.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

"She came out of her house with another guy who was not her husband, so we must punish her."

With no other reason given, who that man was, nothing. Those people are crazy and who gives those fighters the right to judge and punish? Article further states they beat women if they don't like the way they dress. Wouldn't mind spending five minutes with that guy with the belt in an alley. If that was my daughter, I wouldn't be standing by silently and he would be in no position to ever strike another woman again, ever.

You would if they had guys pointing guns at you and the rest of your family.

One of the guys who pinned her down was a brother. It gave him religious kudos if I read that correctly.

Obviously it says a lot about the place of women in that society.

I also have a gun. End of comment.

I am just glad I wasn't born in that situation. There are parts of India where culture is a lot similar to Taliban....again I am glad I never had to endure any of that.

Its pretty easy to say how you won't let your family be tortured and you have a gun to fight back, but when you are born and brought up in a certain kind of environment where the only thing you have learnt is -- Honour your religion........then that's what you follow.

There are tremendous pressure and controlled surrounding if you are from these part of the world. You try to fight for your rights and you die, and its not just you who die but your whole extended family dies along with you.

Their biggest fear is girls getting education, educated girls/women will always rebel against them and that's what they don't want to see, they want to keep suppressing women. And the best thing to do is burn schools.

I have been to Morocco 4 times now. Granted Morocco is much more westernized than some countries. But I never seen anything that would have viewed this as acceptable. We had to spend a lot of time in the courts to get the approval of our marriages, and there were women there that were divorcing their husbands, that had claimed abuse. They would throw the men in jail for this. So not that much different than here. Granted this was relayed to me by my husband, but I don't think he would have any reason to make it up.

Also they make it sound as if a woman is not allowed to be with any man under any circumstances. But yet I saw women climbing into taxis that were driven by men, scrunched together next to a man that they didn't know. Nobody batted an eye to that. Just a note, a taxi there picks up as many passengers as they can, so you will get thrown in with whoever else they run into.

I realize that this isn't quite the comparison to what happened here. But when I see what I have seen in Morocco I have a hard time believing that this is as openly accepted as they want us to believe.

Well that's my take on it, but I am certainly no expert.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

The flogging is ok but the crime didn't deserve that particular punishment? Or, you think it's ok for women to be treated like that so long as they live in a different country?

YEs Flogging can have it's place as a form of punishment, if memory serves me correct, we utilized it even in America once upon a time.

As for "this crime" presented in the vid, forgive me for not accepting at face value the report, I am sure the people relaying this story have a clear motive and this might include reporting less than honest details about what happened and why the punishment.

As for me, I would very rarely be in favor of such a punishment for a woman, A woman would have to be guilty of Torture herself (or something like that) before I could consider it.

As for a man being lashed, under the right circumstances I would not only approve but could hand out the punishment.

If the facts of the story are complete and accurate, this is no more than an unjustified punishment by mob.

But we clearly have no business preaching to these folks as our methods bring far worse results on innocent victim of the Criminals we refuse to deal with.

I should note that the vid was very choppy and perhaps I was not able to appreciate the severity of the lashing.

Why do you think America stopped using flogging as a punishment? Do you think that someone who 'enjoys' punishing should be allowed to administer the punishment? Perhaps we should allow people to apply to be executioners?

Why is it ok to differentiate between men and women to apply punishment?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I guess the girl screaming and having to be held down merely indicates that she doesn't like a little paddle, not that it was extremely painful, or anything like that.

I was in Swat a year and a half ago with my husband. These people are not barbaric, it's the taliban that is. They have come and taken over thier community. Swat was once called a paridise on earth. The taliban uses this kind of thing as a scare tactic to scare the people. I am sure that brother was forced to hold her legs down. It said in the tape that someone was saying to hold her down more.

Its a shame they have come in and taken over and have destroyed many landmarks such as bhuda statues carved into rocks that have been there over 1,500 years. Also many other things like mansions that Kings of Swat lived in long ago.

The Pakistan army is doing nothing about it either. I am so glad my husband is out of there.

Why did we stop flogging? I would imagine their arose a desire to use more "humane" methods.

I think the results speak for them self.

No, we would not want people who "enjoyed" the task to administering punishments but better someone who enjoyed it than someone who shirked their duty.

According to feminist dogma, male and female are nearly one in the same.

Neither I nor most of the world share this view.

Men and woman are mentally and physically different, thankfully the few that refuse to recognize this fact are dying off.

This is where the "non-intervention" policy serves well.

Reducing the types of punishments in the US has done nothing to curb the crime rate, so as our punishment has become "more humane", our crime rate has soared.

If you're worried about whether or not the person administering the punishment is enjoying it or not... that is for them to deal with in their own moral/belief system. If you want to avoid there being any pleasure from the person giving the punishment, I guess we can go back to the guillotine, the gallows, a firing squad, the gas chamber, or the electric chair. Canning of course could be an option, but you risk the chance that the person performing the canning would get their rocks off.

Rather than worrying about what happens in other countries, we should be more concerned about what goes on in our own.

The reality of flogging - or is the flogging ok, just the crime that is wrong?

Link

When I see this kind of thing I think this is God's Law. The vengeful God of the old testament being put into practice. As a modernized western woman I find this difficult to watch. Was the married man her cousin? I read the article but it didn't mention. It just mentioned that her brother was one of those holding her legs down and that this was seen as giving him honor because it was for God.
