lol primahen, that made me laugh! Just make sure your porch lights are turned off & close the curtains....misery guts! ha ha

Good luck Magpie on the job hunt, anything would do right? I'm gonna wait till after Chrimbo & then I'm gonna enrol at a college in Tampa, Florida (as we'll be down there for the winter) We've decided that it's a great opportunity for me to retrain so I'm gonna do an 8 week Certified Nurse Aid course & get some work in a nursing home or hospital. Later I'd like to study for Registered Nurse but we'll see.

We also pick up a labrador puppy in a couple of weeks...couldn't resist. She'll be 8 weeks old & we're gonna call her Tetley (after the tea bags) :star:

Oh that's sweet! Mmm...Tetley tea! Knight and I have seen a few kittens who would be fantastic for my Bean. We figure that if we look at a kitten who seems quite mellow but friendly, and she looks like her name is Mink (or Minky), then that's the one we're taking home. :D It's also great that you're looking into retraining. They treat medical staff really well here, so I hear. You can also get really pretty scrubs :P.

Primahen, you should do what Calvin's dad did in a Calvin&Hobbes comic -- he would spend his Hallowe'ens hiding in a bush with a water hose in case kids (or potential TPers) showed up  .

With jobs, hey, yeah, anything will do (almost). I don't want minimum wage because I do have a degree, but because of my situation in the UK, I don't really have any "proper" experience. I'll have to start at the bottom and work my way up, but I know I can do it. C'moon, people! Call me so I can be paid!

Also, the application processes for Best Buy and Lowe's are a laugh. They ask you these questionnaires which basically ask stuff like:

If a customer really annoys you, you'd punch them in the face.

1) Strongly disagree

2) Disagree

3) Agree

4) Strongly Agree

:P I made that one up, but that's the gist of it. But hey, who would answer honestly to that one, knowing that you could be denied a job for it?

Magpie.

propa british answer: strongly disagree

american answer: get them to punch you in the face and sue Lowe's/best buy for a tidy sum. its the American way.

will consider the Calvin thingummy.......because shouting " oi, you , sling your hook" is not going to work around here.

if i get the ead soon , i'll get work as soon as I can, It will help with getting rid of the strangeness. why did you get the Ead so quick??

hey, thanks for that, I did exactly that with the wage he now gets. right 1 more question, i dont have a ds3205, from my medical, i do have a copy of my vaccinations from my g.p in london. I would prefer to wait to go and see a civil surgeon because of the cost and because it looks like most of them here want to give you the frigging vaccines even if you have already had them, and I have.. Should i just wait for the rfe? also should i really do the separate apps as you did, how much quicker is the EAD dealt with as a result?

thanks nic

About the 3 separate applications---that's what they are. You are applying for AOS (green card), EAD (work permit), and AP (travel). They are processed at different places, so you complete each as a stand alone application as they will go their separate ways once received. Are you asking if you need to do EAD and AP? Sure, it's free with the AOS filing and just a couple of extra photocopies and photos. You could get authorized to work sooner than waiting for the GC. And the travel document is a "just in case" thing. What if somebody got sick or died suddenly. You would be stuck in the USA waiting on a green card. The AP comes in 60 days, many sooner.

DS3025-- If you have had every (age appropriate) shot and booster needed for AOS recorded on a DS3025, then it's good for filing AOS. But if you got boosters later or shots in the US, then the DS3025 isn't a complete up to date record. That's when you need a civil surgeon to look at your various proofs (DS3025, GP in London, maybe health dept in the US or a US doctor). The civil surgeon will put all your records on one form (I693) and seal it for submitting with AOS.

I know a few people have expressed their thanks to you before on this forum but I just wanted to say...wow...you really do have a wonderful nack for expressing what can appear to be a very daunting and complicated process in a very simple and understandable way. I hope you are on the road to recovery.

Happy halloween everybody. I am dressing up as john lennon and wifey is yoko ono. should be fun

Chris

Thank you so much Julie Ivy. I'm glad to help when I can.

I'm still not well, but I think some better. I tried to go the last 24 hours without any narcotic pain pills, but that's not working out too well, so I guess I'm sicker than I think. We had company from England for a week and that went really well. Nick's mum and niece came and it was nice. I didn't do alot of hostessing but everybody chipped in and it was great. They had a good time and we loved seeing them.

I'm still checking in on you guys when I can to see all the progress. It's going pretty fast now. Congrats everybody.

:D Forgot to say, got my green card on the 30th. Knight and I were housesitting in Anchorage so we didn't get to check the mail until then -- but I got the email notice that it was sent out on the 27th. :D I'm guessing it must have got here on the 28th or the 29th. I think I forgot to mention it because it feels so surreal to have it...

Now, for jobs again...

John finally got the EAD and AP in the mail on Saturday (Happy Halloween!), but AFTER we got the "card production ordered" email from CRIS, we got another saying that the EAD had been approved (again). Both the EAD and AP still say "Post-Decision Activity" on the USCIS website. ??? What, as they say, the fudge?? No matter-- documents are in hand, and now we're just waiting "patiently" for the I-485 approval.

Just got an email on Pat's I485. Current Status: This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred. No word what it's pending, just that it is. Gotta love half-information.

:ot: If you happen to find yourself in Chicago this week... On Thursday evening the Chicago Brit Meetup group is gathering at a local watering hole. The occasion? Guy Fawkes Night of course. Pat and I will be there.

Cheers everyone,

Bob

oh yeah I forgot guy fawkes, my hubby thinks it a bit strange that we love a night where we burn something in effigy but I love guy fawkes night, especially the smell. Dont think I can make that, but post some pics it would be really cool to see.

Nichnick, how do I get on that spreadsheet, do i have to have had my NOA1 first or just sent it off, because I sent off the AOS on friday??

Hopefully you'll get better soon nic.

Blaah, I think I have a case of food poisoning...I ate something yesterday which decided it didn't like me last night. I was going to pester Home Depot because their online application system is broken, so I'll just go to the in-store kiosk when I'm feeling better.

:D Grats to John and Mary! Don't worry about the "post-decision activity" -- I saw that too on the website, and was a little confused.

Bob, that does sound positive, even if it's a bit vague. It means they're doing something, and it's not sitting somewhere and gathering dust.

Also hoping to celebrate Guy Fawkes here, if it's not windy. The family likes building large fires (we do have two firefighters, after all, one a captain, and both women :D), but because we are sitting between lots of mountains, the wind gets pretty bad. It was strong enough to push Knight's truck around the other night when we were driving home, brrr!
