Here's the kicker it's the same paperwork to file for a full licence and a permit, they also asked for all licences obtained from else where in the last ten years, I also ticked never had licence before and I handed over my provisional licence for them to see. But the title says temp licence, so to be safe I won't drive without hubby present any, cos it's been too long for me to be ready, but I am confussed as to what they actually gave me. I have 60 days from when I got it to take the driving test to get full licence.

Ah ok.

I guess as you had a provisional from the UK, that's what you get here.

I had a full licence from the UK, and then got a temporary licence here until I got to take the test.

In that case, it means that the list you found above seems about right - there are state dependent rules regarding driving on a temporary provisional.

Only thing I will say is that I had a 5 week wait for a driving test date here - if you only have 60 days to do the test you might want to think about booking one sooner rather than later?

thing is I know I'm not ready yet, if I book online and there isn't a spot till after the temp licence ends can I extend the temp licence till I have an availiable appointment? do I have to take the written test again in this case?

I'm genuinely not sure when it comes to a provisional. For mine, they were happy to give me temporary licenses up until the "visa" ran out. I think i'm on my third now.......

So its been a while since I have posted anything on here....kinda getting worried as to why we are still waiting on a green card. We did biometrics back in june and it was transfered the same day as we had the biometrics. We have had one touch since then (look at our timeline....) but its been quiet since we have started this whole process.

Should we call them at all???

I mean we started back in end of May and I really think we are the last ones left in May without a green card yet. :/

Any suggestions as we have been waiting for 4 months now (and yes I know 6 is the norm but I've seen everyone else in May get their green cards)

Thanks,

Skparker

Hey you guys...I've been a lurker here until my time came to file AOS, and now that I've got the forms printed out and have just read all this info about vaccination supplemnt forms and civil surgeons I'm freaking out and wondering if I can do this? It seems SO overwhelming and I'm scared to death I'm going to mess it up!!!

Should I stick with the atty like we did for the first part I'm thinking??? Eek!

Tell me, is it really as hard as it looks?

No it's not as hard as it looks. The sheer number of forms seems so overwhelming, but as long as you take a methodical approach to the forms and the evidence required, you will be just fine! I think it took me about 2 weeks to compile everything, but as long as you have all the evidence to hand it can be done in days. If I were you, I'd save the money you were going to spend on the attorney and buy new shoes :D

It is of course your choice whether to engage legal assistance or not but....

If there is anything in particular you need help with, please ask.

:D As Ellie said, please feel free to ask for advice. It's not as hard as it looks, and it seems like the pile of documents you have to plough through is as high as a mountain, but all the instructions are there on the forms. Just go through one form at a time. Nich posted a fantastic list of things to submit (I think on the sixth page of this thread, or around there) so there's a guide right there as to what you need. Also check the USCIS section on their website (linked there directly) for Adjustment of Status. Don't forget Employment Authorization (I-765) and Advanced Parole (I-131), both of which can be submitted with your I-485 to Adjust Status. If in doubt, ask!

:P Also, don't do what I do and forget to sign forms or list yourself as the wrong thing on your I-765.

Magpie.
