MARM MARM MARM!!!!!!

I am so so so so so happy for you. I'm telling you, you are one patient and incredibly classy lady! There is no way I could have conducted myself the way you have, your patience was INCREDIBLE and you watched other people who started their journey way after you go racing ahead....and you were still so happy for them and supportive.

Hope the POE and the wedding go well.

I know my husband can't get even a permit until he has EAD, and yes I think they have to confirm with DHS. Then, although he has driven in UK for years, he has to hold a permit for 60 days before getting his license. Indiana sucks :(

Do you get a case update when they send the biometrics letter? or will it still say pending? we had a touch on all three cases today..I'm guessing its just moving the files though..

Thanks everyone for the congrats, but I am worried right now...

I called DOS again and I was told that it is still pending/processing.

I don't know what to think...just waiting will tell what the truth is I guess...

Yes, I had a touch on all three and a few days later the biometrics letter came through.

Marm, please don't worry. I've heard of cases where DOS says it's pending/processing but this has nothing to do with AP. I was freaked out too when I got the approval letter, and ended up waiting for something like two weeks for the actual visa. Don't panic! Apparently DOS still calls it "pending/processing" even when it's been approved, and it has upset and panicked a lot of people. You're OKAY -- breathe!

I got a temporary licence here in California using my UK drivers license. Did the theory test and passed ok. Had to wait a month for a practical spot to come available, so got another temporary licence. When it did come available, I took that test and passed it too. However, as there was less than 60 days left on the date they stamped in the passport, they wouldn't give me a license beyond that date. So even though I had passed the test, I wasn't allowed to drive. I went back with my new NOA1's, all sorts, but they told my visa had expired and I shouldn't even be in the country, was now here illegally, etc - after waiting an hour to speak to someone, that wasn't exactly nice to hear.

However, I got my EAD yesterday, took that down today, waited another hour and finally they have agreed to give me a proper license. Until the end of October 2010 when the EAD expires anyway. Oh, and I have another temporary piece of paper in the meantime. Which at least means that I can get to this "interview" tomorrow.

Driver's licenses are often discussed in the forum "Moving here and your new life in America." It's a good place to look for experiences. There's 50 sets of rules because the states issue the license. Many allow you to drive with your UK license for a year. Those that get a license might want to post to this thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=191950

Many states have had to change their rules about issuing driver's licenses. The main change to the law was to make licenses expire when legal creditials expired. So if you had an I-94 or valid visa like student or work visa, to a certain date, your license would be issued only until that date. Before the law changes, somebody might get a 6 year license but only be legal for 1 year. It caused problems because having the license kinda indicated having legal status way beyond when it ended. It was to help with the illegal situation.

Must comment on the name calling I find offensive in this thread. You are not "entitled" to anything until you have been extended permanent residency by the US. A K1 visa gets you a one time entry into the United States for a duration of 90 days. Period. You've been given that, but "pending" something else doesn't give you any privileges. You could be denied. Until you have something other than an approval to enter the US and remain 90 days, don't expect to do anything but wait your turn like the other ladies and gentlemen here are doing.

OK, barging in again  to tell you all...ignore the happy ranting posts...:(

I called DOS again today, spoke to 2 different reps, both confirmed that he is still in AP. I don't know why the DOS rep yesterday had to tell us that the visa is issued and spend a good 2-3 minutes congratulating me. So moral of the story: DOS reps can and do lie. And in this case, she is getting away with it, because I didn't get her name, so there is nothing I can do except tell my congressman/senators and I doubt they will do anything. Fact is he is still in AP :( And when he does get the visa, I am going to wait until it is in his hands, in front of him before I get all excited like I did.

Still waiting....

Congrats to all those who got their EAD/APs/Green card approvals recently. :)
