Wow, get well soon to all who need it!

Just make sure you do exactly as you're told for however long they say and hopefully you'll be back on track sooner rather than later. I know that sounds obvious, but i'm sure i'm not the only one who thought that when the docs said a month or two and it started to feel better after 3 weeks I abandoned all advice!

Had another touch on the EAD on the 9th. Apparently they ordered production of the card then. Which is exactly the same as the touch there was on the 3rd (but with a later date). Hope i'm not going backwards in the system! Just about to do my first follow up call to see what they made of my latest job application. Hopefully the feedback is better than the last I got - when my resume wasn't American enough. D'oh!

Could you explain what you mean a little more? My husband will also need to redo his resume, and I want to be able to explain exactly what should be changed, since he doesn't take criticism too well!! Of course I have a resume I could show him, but being able to explain from a british point of view might help...

I can try!!

Unfortunately, that was all the feedback that I got from the unnamed organization. However, i've been passing my resume round to all of my wife's family members, friends, etc trying to get feedback from them. General opinion seems to be short sentences, bullet points, don't be modest - sell yourself completely, deal in figures/numbers/%'s if possible when talking about results.

I also have a English friend who works in LA whose wife had a friend who paid to get hers done professionally. So I just stole that template in the end ;) If you'd like a copy of my resume then I can gladly send you a copy.

I have to admit that my resume looks far better now than it did previously - although I just called up the first of my applications to find that the job had already been filled. So maybe it's not the resume, but me. After all, you can't polish a you know what can you?!

As a semi-random aside - are any of you guys or your partners on linkedin? I would've thought that if we added each other, the networks would be huge, and if we all knew what everyone else was looking for/working in, we might be able to help each other out a bit? I might know someone who could help out your husband, someone else's husband might be working in an industry that another is looking for jobs in, etc etc?

Grats Shaz :D And so sorry to hear about your back :( I twisted my pelvis and had to see a chiropractor two years ago, and I know it can be yucky (but I can't imagine how yucky it is for you right now).

Also guys, question...we got this email:

*** DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL ***

The last processing action taken on your case

It says it's for employment authorization, so what do they need evidence of? This has a nasty feeling about it :(.

Hey Magpie, long time no see. Hope all's well with you, Knight and Bean?

I would just call the number - USCIS always seems decent enough?

Maybe you just didn't send enough photos, or the photocopies got muddled with the other applications or something?

Fingers crossed for you!

Thankums...I tried calling the number but it just put me through to an automated thing which basically repeats the email I received. I might try calling them tomorrow (it's probably too late to get to a representative), but it looks like I have to wait for the letter.

We're hoping to get the AOS documents submitted tomorrow.

We've just been reading the forms for submitting the 864-A and found something we're a bit concerned about.

Apparently it says something about needing evidence to back up asset values and net value of real estate. Is this only when it comes to the interview? As it also says they need to see evidence of a bonafide marriage but I only ever hear of that for the interview. Or do we need to submit real evidence (it mentions an appraisal or proof of ownership, for instance).

If anyone could confirm that we don't need this, it would help us out a lot. :) Thankies.

We sent copies of our marriage certificates and whatnot with ours.....we waited til we got it back before sending our AOS.

We have the certified copy of the marriage certificate and all the documents on the Guide page. We were wondering if we needed to put the evidence of assets in such as house ownership (for the co-sponsor).

Hi Gemmie

I think your co-sponsor only needs to do show assets if he/she earns less than the poverty level. If your co-sponsor earns same or above then just the usual tax returns & pay stubbs or letter from employer.

Good luck! :star:

Gemmie--

Only need some kind of valuations of assets if you need them to put you over the poverty level like MJ said. If you're not claiming the value of a house to make you meet the requirements then don't need an appraisal for example. Don't even list a value of it. If it's savings or investments, a statement from the bank, brokerage, investment firm would show the value. That section is optional.

There's a list of docs to send on p. 6 of this thread you can check out too. Kind of a checklist to make sure you've got everything.

I like the wedding pics. Wish they were bigger.

So maybe it's not the resume, but me.

Nail on head. And you'd better get used to it. I lost count of the amount of applications I sent in, in the "traditional" manner - a lack of U.S. work history sends your application straight to the bin so many times.

Pothergavel, listen to me: go apply IN PERSON. Get dressed up uber-professionally, roll up with your resume in hand, state that you're looking for work, and ask to fill in an application. Sure, you may get turned straight around and told to go the online or postal route, but at least you've given yourself a fighting chance of actually being seen by the people that matter, and a chance to impress. This is where the little things (like the accent, for example) get a chance to come into play. After becoming tired of being ignored, this is what I did, and it paid off almost immediately. I was hired on the spot at the second place I went to. That never would have happpened if I'd just sent in a postal/online application.

Good luck!

You could be right mate. The only problem at the moment is that most of the jobs that I am reaaaallllllly interested in are spread far and wide. The one I called this morning was in New York, for example.

I've been contacted for 2 interviews next week, although I think they are just generic ones on the back of me posting my resume on different job sites. I'm not panicking just yet - as soon as the permit arrives, I plan on just pounding the mean streets of Walnut Creek and taking whatever I can get. Then I can keep applying for the 'career' jobs. That's the stage of my life I am really at, I think. End of the PhD, so looking for something special. Although I am sure that will be driven out of me with enough rejections! :D

Still, at least football is back tonight ;)

Oh bother! I thought I was A6 and not C9...I saw A6 was for K-1 immigrants within 90 days of arrival into the US. Would that have an effect on it? I also know that I signed and dated it, that I had copied my I-94 front and back, had a copy of my passport bio page and visa page, and that all the other info was correct (and I have an electronic copy of it).

:( Thankums, Nich...I guess I have to wait to get the snail mail.
