Hi all ....

Thanks for the advice Hannah and Nich. I'll hang fire on my SS number and driving licence until the EAD comes through ....

I'll also have a think about where to get my passport changed ... we're visiting Scotland next summer for a couple of weeks, but that's not enough time for processing and return from the passport office - it can take up to six weeks!

I suppose I will just have to bite the bullet and pay the price for Washington DC ...

Thanks again ... take care all!

Ok so we mailed our AOS packet on 31st Aug & it was received at Chicago on 2nd Sept. Deep breaths here we go again! Just hope all our proof of income for my hubby self employment is ok.

I have my SSN & I also passed my written & road test in Michigan. I got my official Drivers Licence in the post which is valid for 4 years!!! yay.

Am I right in thinking I can use this to travel in US as ID & that I shouldn't need to worry about being questioned by CO's because my I-94 has expired?

That should work, but we haven't tried it. There's no immigration to go through on a domestic flight. You show photo id (driver's license) to get your boarding pass. Show same at security to get airside. You get on a plane. You get off the plane at a domestic terminal with no customs or immigration stations and just leave the airport. Unless the airline has record that you hold a British passport and want to see that as id. But I think when I (USC) book domestic flights online, that passport stuff "will you be using a passport/what is the number?" doesn't come up. It's only when I book international.

Just found out we have Nick's Mum and niece coming to visit during half term in late October. I guess that gives us a deadline to get moved to our new house, unpacked and settled. Yikes! I hate deadlines. Life is so simple without them, but makes us very lazy and laid back. We've owned our new house a month now and haven't even scheduled movers or listed our current house for sale. I guess we need a plan if we're getting guests. We've been leisurely painting rooms, ordering window blinds and shutters, putting in ceiling fans...Yep, we need to get on with it.

I hope Mum will cook yorkies for us. :)

The whole ID thing is how I saw it worked when going to San Antonio. They didn't scan my passport or anything, just glanced at it to make sure it was me. I think I got the whole ID thing easily because it was well before my expiration (:: giggles :: I have an expiration date!) date, same with my SS number. I got to update that when I got back from San Antonio too, and the lady was very cooperative about it. Someone else had given me the run around before then, but the guy hadn't understood that I just wanted to change my name to my married one on the database. The lady who was helpful just told me to come back with my green card for confirmation and that kind of thing.

:D Nich, I can't wait for Knight and I to move into our own place. Once I get my EAD, we can sort that out quickly...it must be so exciting. I want to paint rooms with you! Did you repaint the blindingly orange room?

Thank you so much for that information! I was talking about Yorkshire puddings though

Now that you've told me where I can get British sweeties, I'll need to work out whether it's more cost effective to have sweets sent over from the UK. Is £1.70 for a turkish delight a tad expensive or is it just me being a mean scots woman lol?

OK sent off all the docs today! Let the nerves begin! haha. I'll feel better once I get the NOA!

On the timelines, is the "filing date" the day I send it??

Hi Laura ...

It took a week for our NOA1s to come through - so not too stressful a wait! I took the filing date as the day we sent everything off in the post ...

Take care and good luck!

Ok, I'm booking you a round trip ticket to Texas. Bring painter clothes and packing skills. :P

The "blindingly orange" room is a dark burnt orange and since it's the media room, it will get done way down the line if/when we can afford to kit it out with media. hahaha. The guest rooms with furniture are getting done now. I'm sure Nick has dreams of a "man cave" in there at some point. Damian is going to contribute a "No Women Allowed" sign for the door he said. For starters it's going to be the place to put all the boxes we can't get around to unpacking. The room with paw prints tracking up the wall is repainted and it's tree branch curtain rod is down. Any body following this story...we bought a ridiculously large house for a ridiculously low price as a foreclosure because the builder went bankrupt. It was the builder's model home so had some bizarre "decorator" details that probably looked fab when the model furniture and accessories were in it. So it's never been lived in but has sat abandoned a year with fix ups to the paint needed after pulling out a thousand picture hangers and large screws, and major work in the overgrown garden to do. Foreclosures are "as is" but it's in good shape except for cosmetic things.

I think I will go have a cup of Tea with my Sainsburys red label bags and a hob knob hahahahaha

Yay for Sainsbury's red label. :dancing: Nick's daughter brought a suitcase full in July, and she went back with a bunch of new clothes to fill the space.

And a touch for you Miss Hob Nobber Rock Star Diva  which is probably because of the biometrics. Moving right along.
