Thanks Hannah and Nich!

For the DS3025 part, my fiance needs to get his MMR done still, so that is pending, which is why we will need Dr. Arnold's services. So now that I know he doesn't need an SSN to get the I-693 from Dr. Arnold, the plan is to file AOS/EAD/AP immediately after we get the marriage certificate. I did call DuPage County Clerk's office to inquire about whether we can take the marriage certificate into the clerk's office ourselves and get it certified then and there and the clerk told me that we would have to ask the judge on the day of the court marriage  so this part is pending until we actually go to court to get married. So I guess we have everything lined up then...if only the K-1 visa would hurry up and be issued!!!

Visa Journey completed, but we are still here to provide support! :)

Hannah--Marriage is a state thing so depends on how California does things.

My experience with Texas in my County--Get a license and it's all kinda big and on fancy thick paper with a picture or something about my county. I saw Magpie's and it was much fancier in full color from the county where she married...

So it has your names on it. There are blanks for the officiant of the marriage to put the date and time the wedding took place, his signature and credentials (minister or judge). Then it can be mailed back to the courthouse (or taken in person). They record the date and your names in the marriage records and probably scan or copy the license. Then they put a big embossed seal on that same license and sign it or fill in the part that says it is recorded in the records of the county and hand it back to you.

So what was your license in Texas becomes your official original marriage certificate once it's signed by the minister and the county person. That's what I'm calling our official certificate. Our "certified" copy was a photocopy reduced to fit letter size paper that was stamped at the bottom something like "This is a true copy from the records of ___ County, Texas. And it was signed and squashed by the embosser.

A certified copy is just a photocopy from their records that they certify is a true copy. I don't know if your county will give you back the original for yourself like we got or if they file it in a book and give you a certified copy for yourself. Anytime I might need another copy, they can print me out one and certify it.

In the olden days, I suppose somebody had to handwrite the information out of the record book and certify that they had copied it straight from the county records. Then record books were microfilmed, then Xeroxed, now scanned and can be pulled up on a computer. Makes you wonder how your grandkids will get their records. Probably straight to their iphone.

I have a question of you guys that use the UK AOS timeline. On the heading row, I see the text of the column titles wrapped something like this:

# days

NOA -

Biom

I got a PM asking if I could wrap the text because she saw:

#day...

The text is wrapped and I wasn't aware that it would look different to other people. So if you've looked at it, do you see the whole column header or is it lopped off?

Wrapped text? Unwrapped text?

Nich, it looks like this:

DaysAOS.jpg

It's a bit lopped off for all the day stuff, but you can tell what it is -- for me, anyhoo.

Also, thankums Shaz + Nich -- I was confused about the whole NOA1 thing and was expecting another letter (me being the pofflehead I can be).

Marm, I really hope they'll issue the visa soon :(. Huggums!

Magpie.

Still no NOA1 and it's been over a week...either the mail's slow, or they're taking their sweet time in sending me notice. It makes me really antsy, so should I give the USCIS a call about it and ask where it's at? I mean, I only have my A-number to go by, and looking at the NOA dates on the spreadsheet, it doesn't give me the warm fuzzies.

Magpie.

/edit: <_< Apparently, it says on the site that I can't get info on my case over the telephone. Does that render that idea moot, then? I'm just a tad concerned because my K-1 end-date is the 23rd August.
