Moira and Shazza---two of my favs. So glad you're getting the paperwork done. I was so not into doing more paperwork for AOS and know how you feel.

Moira--what's happened to you? You used to ask a billion questions and now you're all calm and confident. Marriage must suit you well. (L) I actually think AOS isn't that stressful because you're not separated from your loved one. It's bunch of more papers to organize but the long-distance relationship days are over.

Welcome Sweets!

And I has a question, guys -- we were going through the Form I-864 and a question comes up about whether the co-sponsor has also signed a Form I-864A. It's hopelessly confusing -- it says that it's an optional form, but at the same time, it says it must be filed at the same time as the Form I-864, and MUST be completed by both sponsor and co-sponsor. I don't think they have to fill it out (and the lovely Nich didn't have it on her checklist), so do we need to file it?

Thankums, and hugs!

Glad your bum day had a nice day following, Hannah :D. My lovely Knight is good at that, too.

Hey Magpie--You know you can call me when you get confused. You've got my number.

If you live with co-sponsor, then her (his Mom?) income can be included on your sponsor's (Knight's) form I-864. He shows co-sponsor income on his I-864 line 24 b as a household member. Then she can fill out a I-864A as a household member, basically saying she is putting her money in the pot with his.

If you don't live in same house as co-sponsor: Knight puts nothing of her income on his form. She fills out her own I-864 telling about her income or assets on her own form.

Same house: I-864 Knight, I-864A co-sponsor

Different houses: I-864 Knight, I-864 co-sponsor

My list is a general outline. Everybody should study the instructions to make sure you understand how to fill out the forms.

Call me, Mrs. Magpie. (L)

Huuugs!

It was getting late on my end when we came across it, so I didn't want to call and wake you (otherwise, I would have been a pest!). Poor Diane (Knight's stepmum) -- she already filled in the I-864, and now she'll have to fill in the A. We only came across the whole I-864A thing while looking at the I-864 form, and Diane had already filled out the I-864 for herself. I was actually looking at the list on the website, and there's no mention of that being on the required documents list whatsoever. There are no links to it, even on the link that explains that the form I-864 is.

 I'm a good girl who looks at instructions, but this one seemed to have escaped me until Knight asked about the I-864A checkbox. I wish they'd made it clearer on the website.

It does say that it has to be completed and signed by two individuals, the sponsor and the co-sponsor. Does that essentially mean that they have to only fill out one, then? This is more to clarify the wording than anything so I know what to look out for in the future.

Hugs -- thankums so much again Nich! :luv:

Magpie.

Nich, you are an angel. Your information has helped us so much with our process. Thanks to everyone else for the info on what they've done also.

I got the HPV vaccine by Planned Parenthood. When I asked for an official record showing I received it, they said they couldn't release medical records until I've finished the course of vaccines. I told them that I needed something to show immigration; they were very surprised that I needed this shot, and the nurse got the MD to sign off on a form for me. Now we can send this along with the form to Dr. Arnold. :)

I'm with Magpie on the 864A confusion. I've read the instructions on the I-864 form but don't see where the "Form I-864A, Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member" form is. Am I just being dense? I only knew about its existence because I saw the checklist. Also, do you think I'm allowed to include the same information I provided for the K1 (the same employer letters, pay-stubs, bank statements, etc) as supporting evidence or do they want to see another "updated" version?

Great to see familiar people popping up in this thread. :D

Magpie --

I think the I-864 for Diane is perfectly fine. Forget the A thingy. If you look at page 2 of the instructions under the heading

How Can My Relatives and Dependents Help Me Meet the Income Requirements? it explains how other people in your household can combine their income with the sponsor. Even the immigrant (with a legal job) can use their income. Some people are using this form to sponsor their grandma, so it's a sponsor and his spouse combining income for grandma, and spouse in that kind of case isn't you the immigrant.

Knight isn't required to list any other household members income on his section 24. (That's the household income section.)

Line 24a: Sponsor's income

Line 24b: Anybody in the house like spouse, brother, sister, Mom, Pop, or immigrant wife that has a job and is pooling their income. We put N/A where the first person would be listed. Knight can do the same.

At the bottom of Section 24 total up all the incomes you listed and don't check boxes d. or e. Knight's total would be the same as 24a. Then Diane can just do her I-864 much like she did the I-134. In your case, living with the co-sponsor she could do I-864 or I-864A. But since she's already done I-864, then go with that. Just don't list her on Knights form.

Gemmie--find the I-864A on the USCIS website. "Immigration forms" is a menu item across the top. If you live with the co-sponsor, that is an option for you. You could list her on line 24b and tick box d. There is a place on the I-864A for the sponsor (hubby) to sign, then below the household member signs a sworn statement.

I used the same proof documents I used with I-134. They were recent enough I thought. If using paystubs, I would photocopy the very most recent for when the co-sponsors signs her form to be extra careful.

Everybody remember to show proof of a co-sponsor's legal status in the US with a birth certificate, US passport, or their green card if not a USC.

Hope the confusion is better for you guys now.

Nich, I don't think I can thank you enough (as always!) -- I was convinced my brain was going to give up, hop out of my ear, and go on vacation somewhere. There's going to be a bit of confusion which I hope I clarified anyhow because Knight shares the same name and middle initial as his dad, but I'm sure the USCIS get it all the time. I've made it painfully clear that the guy named in the tax returns shared with Diane, and in her form, is not the same guy I'm married to. We're pretty much good to go now -- all that remains is to mail it off with a cheque.

Huuugs! Also, thankums everyone else =D we're almost to stage one of the AOS horror ride. Eeeee!

Do you have to call Dr. Arnold first?

I think you call, leave your phone number, and they call back. I believe they want to make sure you know everything to send them so it gets done right. Personal assistance vs what somebody who did it 5 years ago tells someone.
