Hey UK peeps, it's good to know that we're making this journey with you all. The K1 was "annoying" but it seems like this is the process to pull your hair our over. Congrats to everyone that has the ball rolling or who is getting there.

We're preparing this AOS stuff before we get married so that we can get it sent off shortly afterwards.

About the HPV vaccine: apparently I can get it done via walk-in at Planned Parenthood. Is that OK to get the vaccine there and then send off the receipt and London medical form to Dr. Arnold in Texas; or do we have to actually get a civil surgeon to give the vaccination as well?

Magpie mentioned Hep B - is that now a requirement? When I last looked at the list, it said I needed HPV and perhaps a TB skin test (though even that looks debatable what with the X-ray in London).

Sorry for the double-post. I just read one of Nich's posts and can see that anyone can give the vaccine, as long as the official form is signed by a CS.

So where do we get this magical form I-693 from?

Posted (edited)

:D Hey Gemmie! The magical form can be found on the list to the right here on the USCIS site.

Got my HPV vaccine and the medical form done myself, all with the civil surgeon -- it wasn't too pricey. I tried calling various civil surgeons to get prices so I'd suggest doing that so you can get it all done in one go, but only if they're not going to charge you too much. I also had my K-1 medical files and stuff so I just showed it to them and had to wait a bit for the medical people to fill it all in.

I think Hep B is a requirement, but only the first shot. I had my first two done in the UK and the third one done when I went to get my HPV vaccine thingy.

Also, I have a concern -- on the copy of stuff I was given of my medical stuff here, the guy didn't fill in anything for a physical. In the UK, I was only given the vaccines page for my medical stuff. It mentions solely the vaccines being a requirement in the I-693 instructions, and I'm sure I read on the forums somewhere that a physical isn't required for a K-1 unless it's threatening to the immigrant's health. Would I be right on that point?

Thankums!

Magpie.

/edit: Also, with the I-131 parole form, am I only eligible if I've got a sick relative or something? It says that I need to explain the circumstances for leaving the country.

Medical stuff--

No medical exam needed unless yours from Knightsbridge is older than 1 year or the USCIS loses the brown envelope you carefully turned in at POE.

Hepatitis shots are not required unless you live with someone with Hep or perhaps work in a hospital. Don't get Hep.

Lots of us did not get TB skin tests. That "scare" is so last year and has proven not much to worry about. Your Knightsbridge doctor ticked off that you do not have TB by reading your chest x-ray.

If you get HPV somewhere else, just make sure it has some kind of letterhead or name of clinic/address and a signature so the CS will deem it valid.

Those of you getting shots in the US... Download the I-693 and fill out all the info about yourself in part 1 and take the whole form to the CS (or use Dr. Arnold for $30). The CS will fill in the immunization section by looking at your DS 3025 and any new shot records you get in the US. He combines all onto the I-693 and signs off on the last section, then seals it up for you to mail with AOS.

If you didn't need shots after arriving in the US because you took care of it in the UK....just mail a photocopy of the DS3025 with AOS, and skip the CS completely.

Advance Parole I-131

Type this on a piece of paper and sign it:

I-131, Application for Travel Document, Part 7

Statement of circumstances that warrant issuance of advance parole

I wish to apply for advance parole and obtain the necessary permission to travel to my home country prior to receipt of permanent residency status in the event of emergency or family illness. I do not have any specific plans to travel at this time.

NAME AND SIGNATURE

You may not think you are going back to visit before getting your AOS, but somebody could die suddenly, or get married and invite you, or any other kind of thing. So it's free and not a bad thing to have just in case you find yourself wishing you could leave the US before you get your green card.

Hi Everyone ....

Things are settling down here a little after the wedding on July 3rd, so thought I would pop in and say hello! Things have been hectic here with travelling around the country meeting my new relatives. So far I've been to South Dakota and Atlanta - next on the list is Colorado ....

It's so nice to see a lot of familiar faces ... :D I've read all the posts and have lots of information to digest ... Oh my, we survived K-1, only to find out that AOS is a whole new ball game .....

I've been working on the forms for the last couple of days, so hopefully they'll be ready to send off soon ...

I'm away to try and get my head around all the useful information I've been reading .... :D

Take care ...

:D Congrats on your wedding Moira! It's good to see you around here.

Also, thankums so much to the wonderful Nich -- I was wondering if they would be looking at the brown envelope (of doooom!) or not. And yay, I'll apply for the I-131 then -- to drive out of Alaska, you have to bypass Canada, so I'm kinda stuck if I don't go by air.

Also, Social Security changed my name in the database (finally!) to reflect my marriage. They only request that I return when I get my green card.

Hugs! Thankums so much again.

Magpie.

Hi everybody,

haven't been on VJ for so long that I forgot my password :P so it took me forever to catch up on this thread.

Finally submitted my AOS on 27th. Honestly I really didn't think this process would be as near as stressful as I found K-1 to be but so far it's been a shear hell.

I didn't get my I-94 form and since I was clueless that I needed it at all (I know I couldn't have the green piece of paper I-94W but somehow I thought that K-1 visa was enough and nobody gave me anything else to fill in except the customs form), so I didn't ask for it. Only realised I needed it when I started assembling forms for AOS and they all seem to ask for the I-94 number. I can't even get SS card without it. After being send from pillar to post (CBP and USCIS), speaking to numerous supervisors and managers and anybody in between, I finally have had enough and arranged for an Infopass appointment. For which I had to wait almost a month !!! :ranting: Apparently they had lot of naturalisation ceremonies going on. At that point I was so furious about it all, I wasn't sure I would be polite enough to the immigration officer at all. As it turned out, I needn't have worried since he wouldn't let me speak. All he wanted to know if we were married and shaved a stack of applications forms through. But he did say that for AOS application I do not need the I-94!!! I just wish somebody told us that during all those phone conversations and we didn't waste all these time.

I used Dr. Arnold since all local doctors wanted to give me an examination first (and obviously charge me for it) regardless of me explaining that I don't need it so I gave up and sent everything to Texas. No probs at all. Wish I didn't even try the local CSs.

So all the forms have been mailed to Chicago and apparently they've arrived too. Now the waiting begins all over again. I'm not holding my breath this time though.

The downside is that without I-94 I cannot get my SS number and as consequence, cannot get the driving licence. Apparently I can only (legally) drive on my UK one for 1 month. And Orlando doesn't believe in pavements unless you live downtown, I'm stuck. I can't even volunteer since I have no means of getting there (they have bus lines but nowhere near where I live <_<). So I've been cooking, and cooking some more. BTW, Magpie, those marble cupcakes looked delicious.

I'm glad we all seem to be here. Congrats to everybody who already got their GCs, EADs and APs. To rest of us, speedy journey and best of luck.

Gemmie I got my HPV in the USA from family planning and I asked for some sort of signed proof I got it, they gave me a signed vaccination book. Although they kept telling me I didn't need it, USCIS cant require a vaccination like the HPV and all that blah de blah. I was thinking, hold on, who is the one who has spent countless months studying this stuff! :D .

Glad everyone is getting along with there journeys. Heres to a speedy approval! Cheers.

Yey new peoples :) welcome!

So I pushed my luck today and went w. Pico blvd whilst forgeting to bring my ssn# so I couldn't remember it and my marriage certificate so they could see the legal name change because passport was in maiden name, just in case they would let me do it today and not wait for august 19 th and I have to say I met some very nice and kind staff there. Security guy let me go ahead as it was quiet, also said it was fine I forgot my ssn as it wasn't nessersary for this process. He said we could try and see if we could process it without my marriage certificate and all the biometrics technition said was did you get married? Yes. Ok click. :) I just hope my finger prints are ok so they can process them. I wonder how long it takes before they resume processing my case? Oh well I am just happy it's done and hoping for a smother ride from Now on :)
