His greencard arrived today in the mail. WOOHOO!! We are so relieved!!

Silly question for you all, but does he need to carry his GC on him at all times or just until he has his Texas drivers license?

Not a silly question at all. And unless I'm very much mistaken, I believe that by law, he has to carry it with him at all times, irrespective of whether or not he holds Texas DL.

I do stand to be corrected on that, mind.

Yep, by law you're supposed to carry your GC at all times. A lot of people don't though (myself included) because they're expensive to replace if you lose them.

:D Grats Paul&Rochelle! Damian, I don't know why they're throwing forms at you, but I'm sure it's probably a mistake...

And I'm a little confused now -- when me and Knight get married, do we have to send off the AOS paperwork immediately so they won't deport me? Or is the K-1 solely reliant on the fact that we are married (though I can't quite see a way how they'd know it was us specifically)? I are confused!

Also, the volcano is erupting up here. :( It woke me up on the one day I decided to go back to bed after seeing Knight off in the morning. Poor Bean went straight for his little place under the bed, but he's quite calm now. Oooooh, volcanoes and earthquakes and ash, oh my!*

*The volcano doesn't claim any responsibility for the earthquake. It refuses to comment further at this time.

maggpie the sooner you send of the aos paperwork the sooner you get the ead ap and greencard.

its my understanding

K-1 requirements are you have 90 days to marry and after marriage you can apply to adjust status for permant residency. after the 90 days are up even if we are married, we become out of status unless we have a pending application for adjustment in which case our status is pending.

whether or not immigration would come after you if you become out of status to deport you has been asked on here many times.

I am no expert all i know is the general consensus on here seems to be the sooner the better to apply for aos and perferably before the i-94 expires as thats what we are ment to do if you read the rules, but if you are a few days late it prob wont be a problem. I had to send mine three weeks after my i-94 expired and i wasn't picked up, i believe I am not alone.

either way though it is prob best to file as soon as possible just as its what we are ment to do and you getting the process rolling quicker.

If my understanding is skewiff in any way someone please correct me?

Many people successfully file aos after the 90 days, but its safer to do it with the 90, plus with the way aos are being processed at the moment your probly best filing now before the economy gets back on track, as i think a lot of people are holding out. plus you will be able to travel abroad, get a jopb, etc sooner.

I feel sorry for you having to deal with the earthquakes and volcanoes, at least when we get tropical storms and hurricanes hear we get a few days notice. tjough i am having to get usued to daily thunder and lightening. (i didn't know thunder could shake a house until last tuesday.)

:D It's very weird, but the volcano's across the inlet so it doesn't bother me (they rarely deal with ashfall -- the last major one was in the early '90s), and earthquakes just mean things shake a bit, and the cat freaks out, but it's otherwise okay. It's so naturally beautiful up here, it's going to be very difficult to persuade me to move elsewhere (though the winter might!). I just wanted to make sure about the whole AOS filing thing, because I didn't want us to be late and me end up being deported.

Thank you for your responses, guys :D.

You can't edit it, only view it. Next update for you is when you get approved for AP or EAD. We're not recording touches. Trying to keep the number of columns down to basic things. But hey, a touch is good. Maybe they were recording your biometric info into the file.

Hannah, it's not uncommon for a zero to be put in front of a number if they have a computer that requires a certain number of digits. They fill out digits by adding zero(s) to the front. Nick's A number has always had a zero in front way back to the K1 NOA2 notice...9 digits I believe. (I know you didn't get one of those) It has the zero on the actual visa too.

Glad you got you NOAs. Tada! You're officially "AOS pending."
