is anyone else extremely pissed off with this process, or is it just me?

What's wrong? Has something happened? You've got your EAD, you're married and not an ocean apart, you won't have to prepare for an interview, so don't waste energy on anger. They'll get around to you. We had to wait almost 6 months. Try to forget about it and not check on it constantly. You can't depend on the website always anyway. We are still pending according to that.

Hope it comes soon for ya.

everything is going wrong right now... on the visa front though, the ead is useless as apparently i cannot get a learners permit without a greencard so i'm still sat here twiddling my thumbs and driving my husband crazy because i can't go anywhere and am extremely bored and lonely. we have no family here anymore so it's just me and him. i don't check the website constantly but i'm just here all day waiting... it's so depressing, i'm not the person i was anymore.

Awww...I can understand being stuck alone. So I guess you don't have a Uk license to drive on? I would go nuts without my car. I remember looking up Louisiana before and I thought they were more lenient.

Here, this sounds like an AOS receipt is good as one primary identification.

Application for adjustment of status to lawful permanent resident is made on I-485 form.

Applicants in the pending stage must show a
receipt of application
to The Department of Homeland Security. The receipt will contain the name, fees paid, and the application name. The applicant may have an employment authorization document during the pending process.

Once approved for permanent residency, the passport will have a Department of Homeland Security stamp, "Processing for I-551." This stamp is proof of legal presence. The employment authorization document is picked up once this stamp is placed in the passport. Permanent resident cards take up to 18 months to be issued.

And this about having an EAD

Non-immigrants must show upon application for a Louisiana license or identification card that there are AT LEAST 180 DAYS left on their I-94 or Employment Authorization Document. Applicants with less than 180 days remaining shall be denied a Louisiana license or identification card. Canadian citizens may or may not have an I-94 card, but must obtain a status from The Office of Homeland Security for driver’s license or identification card issuance.

Also,
applicants will often present an I-94 that is expired but the applicant will have a valid employment authorization document,
or vise versa; as long as the applicant can present valid documentation, whether it be one document or several, that documentation will suffice for legal presence

Their chart lists K1 as non-eligible, but you're an "Appplicant for Adjustment" now (as above..you have an AOS receipt). Well I suppose you've already argued the whole point with somebody, but in case you haven't, here's the page: https://web01.dps.louisiana.gov/Omv1.nsf/58...8f?OpenDocument

I bet it won't be but a few more weeks. In the meantime, force yourself to do something productive like paint the bedroom or something. hahaha

I say that because Nick has painted alot of stuff since being here. I know, when you're depressed it's hard to get off your a$$ to do anything. I've felt that way and you just can't get motivated or started. Don't give up and make your spouse take you out when he gets home. I'm sure he's tired from working but explain in a nice way you need a little out of the house time every day just to keep sane...just a little drive around to see something but four walls. Maybe you can work out a plan.

thanks for the information, sadly i'm not in louisiana i'm in mississippi, sorry i know i didn't make that clear. where we live they have the worst dmv office of the whole state and i always seem to get through to the same horrible woman who tells me a work permit is not a visa and does not entitle me to a learners permit... i've called other offices and they say that a work permit is fine but they are so far away and i cannot get there...

i hope you're right and that it isn't far off, thanks for the support. :) we are living in a rented house right now with a kitchen that has 1 foot of work surface so i can't even cook anything here really without going crazy and that really sucks because i love to cook! my husband takes me out after work on most days but there isn't much to do here. he is really understanding about me being bored but he doesn't have any free time for himself. i hate to moan about this but we are both slowly going crazy...

Rocks, God knows it sucks enough azz not being able to work, but to not have a driving licence either!!?? Man, that's rough. Ya gotta be able to drive here, especially in the more rural areas (and by "more rural areas", I mean anywhere outside of the major cities) because at least you could do the sort of sh!t that I do to keep sane, namely:

Go to the gym 5-times-a-week

Volunteer at a senior citizens centre in a "nearby" (50 miles away) town, and as of this Monday, take guitar lessons at "local" (35 miles away) college. It all helps, especially when you're stuck in a hick town, with a hillbilly wife, a stroppy teenager, and a hyperactive 10-year-old for company!! :girlwerewolf2xn:

I think someone asked you before: do you not have a UK licence you can drive on? Guess not, or you would have said.

Bummer.

I'm not going to complain as I am extremely happy with the decision I made to move here.

However, , It sucks not being able to find a job right now. I know the economy is bad everywhere, but I worked in London from the age of 16 up until last year, prior to my move.

I've just taken and passed my written exam for my learners permit. I was so nervous even though the drivers manual here is not even a quarter of the size of our theory test manuals in England. My hubby is taking me out later today so I can learn to drive on the wrong side of the road and car!

But trust me, I need a car. I go to the gym most days, but I don't get paid for it. lol! My hubby earns enough to keep us in his US Airfoce job, but I've always been able to bring something to the table.

We live in a smallish town. Not too quiet, but still nothing exciting. I love it here, except for the fact that without a car, I really can't do anything.

My son is going back to London next week to visit family for six whole weeks. I just think having nine weeks off school for Summer is enough to drive any parent crazy. I've stuck a huge list in his case for my family to supply me with decent chocolates, custard and anything else. hehe! They've been sending me parcels every month, and trust me, the folk here are now crazy about Dairy milk chocolate.

I'm going to school in the Autumn, so I guess I should be just patient and wait! I'm hoping once I get qualified as a medical assistant, I'll be able to find work much easier.

It sucks that I don't have checkable references from here and I don't have this whole GED thing!

Anyway, just wanted to let anyone who thinks they're alone in their boredom, that they are not. I just keep smiling and remembering the fact that, my accent still draws alot of attention and it gets me extra bread rolls and chips (fries).

Ugh....we still havent had our $1010 check taken out of our account yet. We sent out our forms on the 20th and they received it the 25th.....#######.

I've seen most people have only waited like 7 days from sending out the petition. Very aggrevating. This is supposed to be the quickest part of all this.
