Damian - the Capital One card you've got...does it build you a credit score/rating??

Yes it does, Dawn. And all you need is a SSN to apply. You start off with a $300 credit limit, but if you follow their "3 steps" program (activate and use the card within 90 days, don't go over your limit, and pay in full each month) then after 3 months you get an automatic credit increase. Cool, huh?

Fantastic news.

Now i eventually have a SSN (had to apply at 3 diff offices and email main SSO) I will apply for one.

congrats on finally making it over!

i sent off my aos stuff in mid feb, now i'm just waiting... when i asked our bank about building my credit score they told me to take out a small loan! i'm not doing that if i can possibly avoid it, is there a specific card that you got from them?

Brilliant idea Daymo. And in the tradition of threads, I made a timeline spreadsheet so people can check progress. Sorry I'm not a 2009 filer, but I'm still waiting and I needed to try out the formulas to count the days and see how it worked.

I've never done Google Doc spreadsheet before so hope you can see the start of it.

Off topic, but Google Docs is amazing..can't wait to start using them full-on once I start teaching in the fall!

and grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr we wish we could file AOS NOW!!! Can't think about going through all that USCIS mumbo jumbo after having my fiance's visa...it already is taking us more than 9 months! But *sigh* need to wait longer! K-1 visa first...

ack! why? incompetence? or did you go too soon after your arrival in the states? (they say to wait 2 weeks/10 days.)

Waited the 10days like i was advised. Went into the smallish town near here, they said no. Went back the following day armed with all the info off here.

Told i would hear something within 10days, got a letter in the post saying NO! So went to a larger SSO near the big military base and re-applied.

Received another letter saying no as i was a K1 and not eligable. Someone on here said what i needed to do as in email the main SSO, he works for SS, and that worked they called me the next day to say my card was on its way!

But geez i was chasing my tail for 10days trying to get something sorted!!

Hi

I know I've missed something somewhere but who is Dr Arnold? Why would I need to call him/her?? Is the vaccinations part not just the form they gave us at the medical to say we've had them all? Thanks!

Correct. Call her office on 512-444-3131, and leave a message stating that you're a new immigrant wanting the vaccination transcription service. They'll call you back with all the details.

After some thought (and discussion) I'm going to move this thread to the AOS forum.

The main reason is because as great as it is to have support threads for various parts of the visa process, we really don't want the whole UK forum taken over with them. The UK forum isn't just a Visa process forum - it's for stories and experiences too. At the moment it's potentially not reflecting that.

So, this thread is probably better suited to the AOS forum, where UKers can continue with their updates, but in a more appropriate setting.

Thanks for understanding.
