Hello fellow Brits,

I sent in my AOS on the 23rd of January. I received my EAD/AP 66 days after filling and recieved my Greencard yesterday! And to top it all off, the mighty red devils are on course for another league title. Brilliant.

Great news! Congratulations :)

I just need to ask a question.

I understand some of you are friends from the forums. But why do you all have this thread going? I mean - your AOS won't be different from anybody from another country...........

I think it was intended as a place to keep up with friends and their progress in one spot once they are done with "The 2009 United Kingdom Interview Thread!" It's a very kind and friendly lot of people who seem to care about the others. It was started in the UK regional, but someone felt it belonged in AOS and moved it. It's similar to the "2005 - 2007 UK Filers *Only*" thread which, I guess, is people keeping up with regional friends. I sorta think it worked as a regional interest, but the gurus know whats best, so it's okay.

The "2005 - 2007 UK Filers *Only*" thread was never intended to be serious. It's a bit of a dig at some other threads that were started in the UK forum - including this one. ;)

Good to keep up with friends. I agree with that and all.

I've just always felt we miss out on a lot if we segregate ourselves too much in the forums. But that's just my opinion and to each his own.

hiya.

it's my first day as a real AOSer. woo. we are going to try to go for the SS# today or tomorrow and see what happens. (on the SS form (SS-5 i think), do we check 'legal alien allowed to work' or 'legal alien NOT allowed to work'? im thinking 'not allowed to work, as that is the case at the moment.)

we are also thinking about getting the vaccinations transcribed (by dr. arnold). i believe it is the DS-3025 that gets transcribed onto Part 2 Section 5 of the I-693. this MUST be done, correct? im just wondering if i should go ahead and contact dr. arnold today to get the ball rolling on that.

i do think i know what i need to do, im just a little overtired (but really happy to have jamie here!) and need a nap!

think ill post back later when i have all of the neurons firing in my brain, instead of the six that seem to be working presently.

You got that right muffin. I was only taking the piss at the super-select threads, like this and the more recent 4/30/09 VSC Filers thead.

You check 'Legal Alien ALLOWED to Work'. A K1 is allowed to work once they get their EAD so that's the box you tick.

So Lisabette...is the Cinco de Mayo wedding still happening? You didn't mention the marriage. Give us some news.

On the immunizations, we tried the old way of sending in the DS-3025 instead of the new version of the I-693 because all immunizations were complete and noted by Knightsbridge. It was a gamble since it was a new form and affected summer medicals, so no one knew what would happen. The USCIS FAQs at the time indicated the new I-693 was mandatory. Anyway I know of a number of others who tried the same and we now know they were approved for GCs with just the DS-3025, even having medicals after the June 1 deadline. So you've got the option to try that, as well as the Dr. Arnold thing.

<shakes head> 0 for 1. ill chalk that up to sleepiness. thanks for the response.

ah, and i am re-reading a bookmarked post by ms. nich that seems to indicate that when sending in the I-485, you can send in EITHER the I-693 with the immunizations transribed by a civil surgeon (like dr. arnold) OR just the plain old DS-3025 (which was issued at knightsbridge). (i know that you risk an RFE with the second option, and that it is even possible tha,t between your POE and filing, your medical results could be lost by USCIS.)

thinking slightly more clearly now. i just had a nice nap and when i woke up? jamie had done the dishes! this whole gettin' married thing sounds like it's totally gonna work out in my favor.

it is on schedule for tomorrow! just need to buy the ingredients for the margaritas/sour mix. already have the tequila. this last week has been really lovely with jamie. we are enjoying being together and doing stuff without a departure date looming over us. <3

not sure what to do about the medical stuff. split right between the two but may just go for dr arnold in the end.

well call me married and adjust my status! we did it.

3504592549_e194252c9c_m.jpg

(he's not a thug, so dont even think it.)

as totally low-key as i wanted. score one for the non-traditionalists!

we also swung by (THE NICEST) social security office to check up on the ss# situation. a super-enthusiastic lady helped us. she was nice. jamie will get an 009 ss# because (according to the lady) the number is determined by WHERE the card is sent to. in our case it will be vermont, so jm. will get a vt ss#. he will be more vermont than me! (since i have a new york number. 052.)

um? think thats it for the update. having someone here (physically) to help with the minutiae of the process is great!

thanks, y'all.

now, on to the cinco de mayo part of the day. jamie is taking a post-nuptial nap, but i will have to wake him at some point to make the simple syrup and the sour mix for the margaritas. : )
