Thanks Nich.

YAY for the GC in the mail. What a lovely feeling.

Don't worry too much about the job-hunt, you're right, you've only been looking for a month. I've been here for nearly a YEAR and was getting nowhere, applying to positions of those job-sites. I went through a phase of feeling depressed because I'd never felt so isolated in my life. I must've applied to so many jobs on those, and just disappeared into the pile of other applicants. I re-made my CV twice, and still nothing. Then I started emailing the people at the top of the company directly, and suddenly I was getting replies within the week, usually within the day! Most of them said they had no positions, some wanted a sample of my work, others wanted to have an interview. I would recommend doing that. It makes you seem really interested and a go-getter.

Nich, your time in Oxfordshire sounds wonderful, I'm envious!

Everyone else, hope you are doing well and enjoying this time of the year in the USA.

My hubby and I are pretty busy, with new job for hubby and medical school for me! I read up here everyday, but if I don't get to reply, now you all know why

Take care, sending lots of beautiful sunshine (minus the icky humidity) to you all! :)

Sounds like a lovely holiday Nich. We're going to Manchester for Christmas this year... first time we've been back since Pat arrived Last July.

Good luck to both of you in your new ventures Marm. And don't send too much of that sunshine away. When Pat arrived here I told her we'd have long hot summers. If you recall, last summer was one of the coolest on record here in Chicago.

Daymo :star::star: for the job.

MARM :star::star: for med school and hubby's job.

Good to hear from you two. Going to cross fingers again for Gemmie.

England is England...some sun/some rain, brilliant lunch and summer pudding at the pub, narrow roads and no parking places, so many cheese selections at the big Sainsbury's so I over-bought, Britain's Got Talent semi-finals every night with some great/some cr@p. We're having a good time.

I remember well, especially since I spent last summer waiting for my hubby's visa to be approved! The southwest suburbs here have terrific thunderstorms and glaring sunshine this time of year. That's Chicago

Thanks everyone for the good wishes! :luv:

How is everyone doing?

Nich: Back from England? I wish I went on a vacation, stuck with my head in medical books for now!

Magpie: Stop stealing our sunshine! (It's been raining all day here!) How is everything?

Gemmie: Any luck with your job?

How is everyone else?

We got back Monday. It certainly seems hotter here now, after cooler temps in Oxford and Brighton. Maybe it is hotter than when we left. Our trip was nice getting to see friends and family. We went punting on the River Cherwell...with a picnic even! Has anybody been punting? It was a very nice and relaxing afternoon (because the brother-in-law did the punting.)

After two weeks, we were both ready to come home. It was the first trip with a green card, so a little different. They wanted to see it pretty much everywhere on the return trip...meaning all the lines you get in...until you are finally on the plane. Why N kept sticking it back in his wallet each time, I don't know. I guess he was afraid he would lose it just walking around with it and the passport in his hand. This was Heathrow and I guess each airport may be different.

Glad you enjoyed yourself, Nich. I was the same at Heathrow with my GC. I didn't realise how often people needed to see it, I must say. But I was so terrified of losing it that I would keep putting it away every time. Did Nick have that feeling that he didn't belong there anymore?

MARM, no news on the job so far. At the interview he told me I have the job if he gets funding, and should find out in a few weeks. I emailed him after 2 weeks and he said he hasn't heard anything yet, and that I should keep looking for other positions in case it doesn't work out. :( Today is my one year anniversary since coming to the US and I'm still feeling fed up. I'm trying to stay positive but it's starting to get to me. I'm still learning to drive, still looking for a job and we need to get out of the in-laws desperately - their marriage is failing.

How is medical school going? Thinking of doing my phD in psych next year.

hi there Gemmie. I know the feeling. i'm used to getting a job pretty much whenever i want one, even turning down interviews. I think you are on the right track, and its going to happen really soon.

I had the interview for the greencard, she told us that the Dr on the -i693 had to notate something that i had mentioned before. then i asked her if everything was ok, she said yeah you should receive your green card in about 3 weeks. Yet here we are in the third week ( i sent the information in from the dr the next day!) and i have heard nothing. I even went back, got an infopass appointment because my online uscis thingy isnt updating anymore, so i didnt know if they had received it, and they had received, it went to Ms. Green ( the lady that interviewed us) so why isnt it here yet???? Is it too early for me to be griping about not receiving the greencard yet?? Anyone??

Hi all! I haven't been on here in so long.

Not much to report, but I did pass my driving test here in NH, which was a piece of piss really. I have to just take a little drive in a big circle and that was it. The funny thing is that I was really worked up about doing it again! So strange. I think the constant job search rejections/ignoring was getting to me. But the truth is that these employers don't have the time to look at a hundred or more applications for a job, so maybe they don't see mine. I had 2 interviews that went well but they gave one job internally and the other they made me wait for ages and then said "they took another direction" when the president resigned and someone else took over (me thinks the company was in trouble). We're still at my inlaws too. I'm grateful for them having us here, but sometimes I wish the ground would swallow me up. Things are so tense and stressful here on top of the fact that they are all slightly barking mad. My Dad came to visit, which was nice. Stomach ulcer on the mend finally. Our little girl is jabbering away and sometimes sounds a bit English and then sometimes a bit American.
