Hi everyone.

It has been over 180 days since we applied for my husband's EAD. He managed to get an interim EAD but only for 30 days. They said to come back in a month and apply for renewal. When he went today, he was told they can not renew it due to the case being "on hold." They offered no explanation and said he would have to write to Missouri. We've already requested USCIS look into the case..nothing yet.

Has anyone heard of this sort of thing happening? We are confused. He has been in the country legally for over 9 months and is not being allowed to work!!!

I-485 , I-765, I-130: NOA1 : 1/23/2006

Biometrics 2/23/2006

Temporary EAD given for 1 month ONLY b/c of Infopass appt: 5/1/2006

Went back to renew EAD through Infopass: EAD card was not given "due to reasons we can't disclose"

5/3/2007: Confirmation that EAD is delayed due to background checks. (started to use the senator, ombudsman and was just a royal pain in the neck)

5/30/2007: EAD production ordered (after over 400 days of waiting!!! woo hoo!)

AOS Interview: 5/12/2008!!! FINALLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7/29/2008: card production ordered...918 days..can't wait to see that card!

Did you get an RFE? The people at our district office said that sometimes they'll put a hold on it for that. That's the only thing I know of.

I hope you get this sorted out soon.

Nope, no RFE yet. But that's a good point and I'll look into it. Thanks so much for responding!

Not sure if it applies or not...

We've been back and forth, because we have not received our EAD (approved in March) ...and we have called every 30 days to request a new on to be sent. We have case numbers, etc.... but everytime that we call, the USCIS system shows that they have 'requested the resend', but there is never anything that shows that it has happened.

In the USCIS system, they 'send it to be printed'. That is the last information that they have. They have no ability to do any tracking after that. There is no accountability of what goes out into the mail stream and definitely no mail tracking. You don't want to hear my comments about this.

Our AOS interview has come up about 3 months after, so we are hoping that we will receive this card 'expeditiously'.

Thanks so much for your responses. Well my senator’s office looked into the issue and we’re undergoing security checks and were told to be patient. My husband is Pakistani and what frustrates me is that we’ve been through a lot of checks already. I understand process but to delay our EAD for so very long is unfair and imposes a financial burden on us. We can not even obtain a SSN. It is a pain to explain to landlords etc that my husband is LEGALLY here but he has not SSN yet. Our I-130 filed in February 2005 was stuck in checks forever and to date has not been approved so our lawyer withdrew it and re-filed for us.

I am so happy to hear of approvals and hope that one day I can post that too!

Anyone else hear of such delays?

Same thing happened to us. We had an unanswered RFE (we never got it). We wrote the NBC to have the RFE resent. They will consider your case abandoned if you don't respond.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Thanks for the reply. Let me see if they sent us an RFE. Honestly I hope it is an RFE because at least there would be some light at the end of the tunnel!

It is possible that USCIS send interview letter and you did not show up or the letter returned to the office...

Because interview letter DID NOT change your online status... Your timeline seems like this...

I am not sure, though... I saw similar threads....I will try to find it..

I remember that many people adviced to make inforpass appointment to see what's going on..

800 number is not useful because they are a contractor...not USCIS people.

Good luck

So no RFE..but we're on hold...some checking ..most likely security..Has anyone ever had such an issue? We were told to be patient? I really feel that they need to be clear about this and upfront if this is a security check. In our case, we had an application that was in stuck in checks for over year..to date nothing has happened so we withdrew it and reapplied.

It is very frustrating for my husband to walk around without a SSN and without being able to work on campus.

Hello. I saw similer case in AOS thread. Why don't you post at AOS thread,

because more people can see it and the hold comes from the AOS issue.
