Or the UK will hold onto it in perpetuity because it sets a prescident for other ares they still hold onto.

If there was clear a national referendum that indicated that the population wanted to cede British Citizenship, I can't see what justification the UK could use to perpetuate their claim.

Talks about Gibraltar are much the same - but there is a different set of considerations there, as roughly half of that particular island is inhabited by and controlled by the Spanish.

Virtually the entire Falklands population is of English descent.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

As a one time resident of one of Britains other colonies (Gibraltar) I can tell you that the British government cedes to the wishes of the residents. Gibraltarians insist that they do not want to come under Spanish rule. Referendums take place regularly with the same results.

If the residents of The Falkland Islands wish to be considered a British terrority then so be it.

Malvinas Day (Spanish: Día de Malvinas), officially Day of the War Veteran and the Fallen in the Malvinas War (Día del Veterano de Guerra y de los Caídos en la Guerra de las Malvinas) is a public holiday in Argentina, celebrated each year on April 2. The islands are usually known in the English-speaking world by their British name, the Falklands.

The holiday is a tribute to Argentina's fallen soldiers in the Falklands War (Guerra de las Malvinas), which began with the Argentine occupation of the islands on April 2, 1982.

 I think some people have an over romantic political view of the Falklands when they glibly say "give it back!" without really understanding the history of the islands or it's people.

Argentina’s claims to the Falklands have been roundly rejected by Gordon Brown today ahead of talks with the country’s leader.

The prime minister insisted there was “nothing to discuss” with Cristina Kirchner, the Argentine president, over sovereignty of the islands. Kirchner has pledged to secure the return of the disputed territory, which Argentina invaded in 1982.

She is expected to raise the Falklands question with more general economic concerns when she meets Mr Brown in Chile today.

But the prime minister told journalists travelling on his pre-G20 tour: “There is nothing to discuss from our side. The essential principle has always been that the islanders should determine the issue of sovereignty for themselves and, let us be clear, our first priority will always be the needs and wishes of the islanders.

I am very happy that Argentina has a day to remember the young men that Leopoldo Galtieri sent to die. The loss of life was tragic for both countries.

It's about time Gordon Brown did, or said, something right.
