So, I am being paranoid.

I confirmed with Montreal a few days ago that the NEW I-134 FORMS DO NOT NEED NOTARIZATION.

However, I am worried because on my checklist, it listed "Notarized copy of I-134" and I had checked the box that YES SIREE I have it! (When I did not ;) My fiance and I downloaded the new form and just used that.

BUT I was sent the old form in P3 and am worried that maybe they sent me the old form because they WANTED it notarized (IE, maybe I am a special case).

Ugh.......is it April 18th yet? ;)

ANyway, so I am debating just saying to hell with it and getting the OLD form notarized and having my fiance FedEX it to me.

How much does it cost and does it tpyically take weeks to get it done. It would be done in VA.

Thanks

Notaries are cheap in the US. We had one in our street in DC in the local liquor store. No kidding. I think they charge like $10.

VERY different from how it works in Germany, where a notary is always a lawyer with some extra special license who will charge you A LOT.

So, I am being paranoid.

Personally I wouldn't have it notarized, they told you that you didn't have to...so why would you?

Again, if you read my whole post you will see why I am worried. They SENT me the old forms and ASKED me if I had it notarized (on the checklist that I HAVE to bring with me) And I stated (checked) YES I DO HAVE IT NOTARIZED. So, they will see the NEW form and see it NOT notarized.

That is my concern. Paranoid? Perhaps. But this is US government and we ALL know everything has to be perfect.

Thats a good idea to print to the email saying it doesn't have to be notarized!!!!!

So, a lawyer doesn't have to notarize it??? Wow, I think here in Canada they do>??

Hi Carrie,

They sent me the old form and the same checklist as you. I have my interview on Tues. I'll let you know how it goes.

Having something notarized, is really someone who is officially able to notorize! What in essence they're giving in their capacity to say is that the "signature" is really yours. That's all. Anyone who is a notary can do this. Gene had his bank officer do it. All they were attesting to is that the signature was his. It's free. I don't know of anyone that charges for this. So that's why I too don't think it's a big deal, and wouldn't bother with it. That's probably why now they don't need to be notarized.

Notarizing is free at the bank if you have an account. We just went in with the form and the guy at the desk signed and stamped it for us right on the spot.

My fiance's co-worker is also a Notary so he did it for us too (we had to fill out a new form).

Removing Conditions

Sent package to VSC - 8/12/11

NOA1 - 8/16/11

Biometrics - 9/14/11

I just goto my bank and they do it for free. Courthouses usually can do it as well, but charge a fee

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You can go to any municipal building and have it done for free. Notaries are pretty much everywhere. Heck, even my local real estate office offers it as a free service.

Ya, don't yell at the trailmix

Here is the thing - there is a level of paranoia developing on this board - and I mean VJ in general. People are going over the top trying to dot their i's and cross their t's - they are now doing half the alphabet.

How about you try this. Do the new form and the old form, have the old form notarized. Take the new form with you to the interview and present it. If they say hey - you cannot submit this form! Then pull out the older/notarized form.
