I am trying too book a flight for my husband. They say the reservation and ticket must be exactly as listed on his passport. And I am having a problem inputting it into the spaces provided. Unfortunately his passport lists his name with five names instead of the usual American three. Will it cause a problem if we shorten it a little to 3 names. I am worried about boarding and POE.

And when you call these online companies their customers services SUCKS big time. I've called 4 companies and I've yet too get this you would think simple problem solved.

Any advice or personal experience with this type of situation is appreciated. I am currently waiting for a travel agent to call me back. Getting very frustrated!

I hear you on the customer service! I would do the first, second and last name but I don't know how that will fly if it needs to match the passport. How on earth did you get all the names on the passport??? Maybe someone here will know who to call but I would suggest trying to contact the airport that he's flying into and see what they say first. Good luck! You must be so excited!!

With my husband, he has 2 last names and no middle, the same thing was said, that the names on the boarding pass had to match the pass port, well when i tried to put it in, same thing happened, it didn all fit, so i ended up taking out all the spaces so instead of John Jacob Smith, he was johnjacobsmith, i told him that if he had problems, say that they wasnt enough space for the spaces between the names, maybe if do your best with the names, and have him bring his ID along with his passport, (more proof that he is who he says he is, it will probably be alot better. i doubt u will have problems. I am sure there are people with the same situaction from different countries and cultures, what are they going to do? tell them they cant board because THEIR program wont let you enter YOUR information CORRECTLY? doubtful. very doubtful. good luck!!!!!!!!

I have two middle names, but I never put my middle names when buying a plane ticket. I just use my first and last (which is long enough because it is actually two names but mashed together with no space) and I've never had anyone complain that my name does not match my passport.

Oh and now looking at my last boarding passes, my name was too long and all of my first name didn't print on the boarding passes. Nobody said anything to me.

Maybe this is a silly suggestion (I haven't read all the posts on this subject) but why not let him buy his ticket there? He won't have any of these problems... H found it cheaper to buy his ticket at Egypt Air there and they even held it for him for a couple days without a big hassle...

These days buying a one way ticket for someone ELSE coming from MENA to the USA is considered something worth a high level of scrutiny by the airlines and the TSA if they get a chance to be involved.

H didn't have a way (no credit card) to purchase the ticket from JFK to here so I bought that one online and he just printed the electronic ticket in Egypt and carried it with him...

He has 4 names on his passport but we only used 3. Didn't have a problem...

We did the same thing  Hubby has 4 names as well. They used three, first, second and last name. If he is flying Egyptair I think that he has to buy his ticket in Egypt. I thought it had to be done in person and not online but things could have changed.

Can't he go to a travel agent in Egypt to buy it? That's what my husband did. He got it for a reasonable rate. It is *his* ticket after all. Not to be bitchy but he is an adult and is probably very capable of purchasing an airline ticket. Just a thought.

My husband bought his complete ticket in Egypt. Egyptair...Cairo to NYC, NYC to DTW.

BTW my husband has 5 names including his surname and he bought his just fine. I don't think he used all 5 names though. Maybe 3 I think.
