Just wanted to post and update about my passport application. I applied for my passport last Thursday (8/20/09) and for my surprise I received it yesterday (8/27/09). I did ask for expedited service, but that was faster than I though it would be!

The certificate has not arrived yet and they say it will come in a separate envelope. I also applied for a passport card. The more evidence I am done with USCIS, the better! ;)

Good luck to you all still waiting for the ceremony!

I applied for my passport today and the passbook as well. She told me it would be 2 1/2 weeks non-expedited which is fine. I'll let you know if it does come through in that time frame.

Hi Kathryn,

Just a question... did u apply your passport at the Post Office or City Hall?? Where did you apply then??

It's because I apply my son US passport at our Post Office area last July 31st, and she said it will take 4-6 weeks for non-expedited application..

Thanks.

Hi Cookiee,

I took the completed application form, the two photographs and my Naturalization Certificate. I had also made a copy of my DL as the instructions said, however, the Naturalization Certificate counts as both proof of citizenship and proof of identification so she didn't need that. Oh, I also took a cheque for the actual passport fees, and then paid the administration processing fee by debit card.

Rebelheart,

Yes, I applied at our local Post Office. When she asked if I wanted regular or expedited service I asked how long the regular service was taking and she said that in their experience people were getting their passports in 2 1/2 weeks, although some were getting them back in about 2 weeks as well. She said that the passport/card sould be returned separately from the Citizenship Certificate but they didn't always do that either and sometimes both came back in the same envelope.

I wonder if the extra time involved has to do with when you applied for the passports? Summer tends to be a busy time for travel and I wonder if they were processing more applications mid-Summer than now at the end of Summer. It is the only real reason I can think of for a discrepancy.

Took my oath yesterday with 3,497 other new citizens! I was amazed at how organized they were! The judge was a little late. When it was announced, the crowd booed loudly. I thought it was rude - of the judge to be late knowing thousands of people were waiting and of the crowd to be so disrespectul. But as I overheard somebody say - most of us waited 5 years, what's a few minutes more?

Most people were emotionally moved after the videos were played and were dabbing their eyes when the lights were turned back on. A few looked bored as hell.

In my opinion, it was a good ceremony.

Now, I'm heading to costco to have a passport picture taken, then off to the post office to apply for a passport.
