Hi guys,

My husband's interview was this morning and everything was a success! He is scheduled to take the oath next week on Aug 27th!

I didn't accompany my husband because I read several accounts here about spouses not being allowed in the same waiting area as the applicant.

For other New Yorkers, the Garden City office is easy to reach without a car, and my husband said the bus service from the Hempstead train station is very frequent - there is no need at all to take a cab if unless you are really running late.

He got there early and was called for his interview about 20 minutes before his scheduled appointment time. The whole interview lasted no more than 10 minutes.

The two documents the interviewer specifically asked for were the Selective Service registration and my Certificate of Citizenship (he commented that a U.S. passport is not good proof of citizenship). Then he asked for any evidence of our married life, so my husband showed him what he brought and the interviewer chose to keep some utility bills, apartment insurance statements, and statements from our retirement plans showing each other as beneficiary. My husband commented that the interviewer asked several times if either of us had been married previously (it's the first marriage for both of us).

The test question husband remembers are:

- What ocean is on the west side of the U.S.?

- What is rule of law?

- How many U.S. senators are there?

- What is the name of the national anthem?

He doesn't remember the other two, but he got all six right and wasn't asked any more.

After the interview he waited about 50 minutes for the oath appointment letter. I plan to go with my husband to the swearing in although I've heard that relatives are not allowed to attend the ceremony, just because I want to celebrate the end of this journey with him.

Wow! I can't believe it's over! :) :) :)

Congratulations! Those were the same questions I was asked - the other two were "why are there 13 stripes on the flag" and "what happened on September 11, 2001" - I think they must have set questions on each page and it depends on what page you get:-). I would think you should be able to attend the swearing in - geeze, can't each new citizen invite at least 1 person? After all, you're the reason he's there!

Ha, you're absolutely right, Kathryn, I asked my husband and he confirmed those two questions are the other ones he was asked today.

He's now a little worried because he forgot to remind them about including the hyphen in his name on the naturalization certificate - somehow it always gets omitted from immigration documents and he's concerned the same will be true of the naturalization certificate. Hopefully on the day of the oath he can make a request to add the hyphen, if they do omit it as we are suspecting they will. I don't suppose there's anything else we can do at this point to ensure the name is spelled correctly?

As far as relatives attending the oath, I read on recent posts (such as March filer Tini27's) that here in Brooklyn, NY, the relatives cannot attend any of the events and have to wait in a cafeteria or something, even though the process takes about 3 hours. Also cameras and cellphones are apparently not allowed, which is a shame. But I will go with my husband anyway because I want to share that special day with him - I'm prepared for several hours of waiting, and afterward we'll go out for a nice lunch to celebrate.

Interview went fine Puffy. Passed and got lucky because there is an oath ceremony at Bethel tomorrow Aug 19th at 2.. that's when my oath taking is.. Finally this stage is over. Learned a lot from this site.. But there's a lot of amateurish wannabe atty in this site that can think outside the box.. You know who you are.. betcha you're a taddle tale too..

Puffy hope you get your interview done quickly so you can join us in the oath ceremony... but if you dont I hope you get to be a USC soon.. Here's the schedule for oath takings in the Metro Area.

Im very happy to see that most of the April applicants are turning red!! Hopefully my interview goes well tomorrow!!

BTW Does anyone know what a college student,never been married or rent/own property can take as proof of residency besides my transcripts,Im getting a little worried that my "paper stack" won't be sufficient..Here's what I have my tax returns for 3 years (Im 20 years old and I've only worked for 3 years!),passport,green card and my college transcripts and high school diploma...Any suggestions as to what to bring?

Also do they need the original SSN card? I only have a copy of mines! :bonk:

hi every one i had my int on 07/10/09 she hand me a form:N-652

X - i passed the wirtten test of english and us history and government.

X - USCIS will send you a written decision about your aplication.

anyone had the same experiance?

We are in similar positions :) I am also a college student, 20 years old, and also at the Newark office! How ironic. I would also suggest bringing a bank statement, if you have a paper one that was sent to your residence. Also a credit card bill statement perhaps? Cell phone bill? Don't forget your birth certificate too, I noticed you didn't mention it in your list. I'll cross my fingers for you! Good luck, and I look forward to reading your experience.

P.S. It seems that the Newark office has really stepped up it took me only 4 months to get my interview date,
