Congrats on the approval, Kathryn! :) :) :) It was funny that she commented on the size of the file! I have a feeling that my husband will have the same type of comment at his interview next week. We always sent way more than the minimally required paperwork "just to be on the safe side" - we already have a huge stack of documents ready for next week (even though we're hoping not to need most of it!)

Clara, congrats on the approval as well, hope the oath appointment arrives soon! :)

Babonsi, big congratulations on finally taking your citizenship oath! LOL about your hubby breaking out in cheers at the wrong moment! :oops: But it's sweet how he was trying to show his support. :D

Well I was approved! My husband and I arrived at 12:50 for my 1:05 appointment. My name was called at 1:20. The officer was very straight forward - had my huge file on her desk (she even said it was 'huge'), went through the application, asked about my 'windsurfing without a lifejacket' offense (hehehe), asked me the citizenship oath questions, had me sign the form, and then asked me to read "How many Senators are there" and write" There are 100 senators"

The questions were:

What is the name of the National Anthem?

What ocean is on the west coast?

What happened September 11, 2001?

Why are there 13 stripes?

What is the Rule of Law?

How old do you have to be to vote?

She asked to see my green card, my DL and my SSN card. I also offered my military ID card. She did not want to see my passports nor any other evidence. She did not ask to see the originals of my husband's BC, our marriage license - nor any utility bills (hehehhe).

She then said that the next oath ceremony is August 26th and did I want to be scheduled for that? I said yes and she said she just needed to get a supervisor's approval and to wait back in the office and they would bring me my oath letter.

The interview was maybe 15 minutes in total, and after about 10 minutes of waiting I got my oath letter.

There were two things really interesting - people waiting for today's oath ceremony were in the same room with us and it was kind of neat to see the mixtures of races and cultures present. They were also conducting green card interviews as well as citizenship interviews (we overheard some lawyers giving clients advice, etc.) but it seems like a lot of times - we figured maybe as high as 50% of the time - an officer would come out and call a name - and no one would respond. It seems unbelievable there would be that many people who miss their appointments but that is what it seemed like was happening.

Anyway, oath ceremony on August 26th at 2:30 pm.

Hello Everyone,

Well the interview is done.

I had an appt at 12.45 pm today.

I was called at 1.05. The interview took around 20 mins

She asked me all the questions in the N 400. To me, it was

like a rapid fire round. Then she asked me to read " Who can vote"

then asked me to write "Citizens can vote"

Then I was asked

NAME OF VICE PRESIDENT

NO OF AMMENDMENTS

HIGHEST COURT

WHO WAS BROUGHT AS SLAVES

Can't remember other 2 as it was too fast.

Then I got stuck in my name as my marriage certificate had my maiden name

My present name is married name.

So she said decision can't be made. Luckily, I had my old passport with me

With showed a stamping that said subsequent to marriage my name has changed.

Fortunately, she was happy with it. So she said that the oath would be on Aug 26th at 1 p.m.

Even though my naturalization is based on 5 years, she verified birth certificate,

Marriage certificate and old passports.

So i would recommend everyone to take all these documents to prove your legal name change.

Congrats Kathryn. How exiting. I got exactly the same questions as you. The main difference is that the officer commented on how small my file was. I am the opposite. I only send the minimum: For this citizenship I only sent my tax transcripts as evidence of a marriage (plus the certificate) So my complete file is about an inch thick. One of the reasons is that my documents are mostly in French and it's quite expensive to have it translate. So you only want to send the minimum.

Anyway, Tomorrow morning is my ceremony. I'll let you know how it went. Thank you for the help and support.

I am an American now. I had my ceremony thi s morning and all went well. It was a wonderful moment.

We were about 120 people attending from all over the world, some very old and others not so old.

While we were waiting, they played some songs from the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen etc...Everybody was relaxed and in a good mood. They opened the ceremony with a video, Faces of America, representing the diversity of the US population. Later, the director of the US immigration office came and gave a speech explaining the responsibilities coming with the citizenship and finally administered the Oath.

Now that we were all citizens, they showed a video of Pres. Obama welcoming us as "fellow Americans" which I found to be pretty emotional and yes Tom you are right concluded with video of US sights and sounds over "I am a proud American" from Lee Greenwood. (That last part was really cheesy)

Anyhow overall the USCIS did a great job with this ceremony.

Thank you again for the support, my immigration journey is over. Good luck to all of the ones still waiting.

07/02/2009 - Interview Date *APPROVED*

07/10/2009 - Oath Letter Sent Out from USCIS

07/27/2009 - Oath Ceremony Date *COMPLETE, NOW A U.S CITIZEN!!*
