Trying to remain positive but I'm getting a bit nervous. We were transferred to CSC on 2/25 so I started expecting to receive an approval notice fairly soon. At first I was not concerned about it since the normal time at VSC was at least a year so we planned our annual trip to Thailand so the grandparents can see my daughter. Now we are two weeks the trip. I will be staying for the first two weeks and returning for the last two weeks. My wife will be staying with my daughter for 6 weeks. Since there is a 20 year difference in our ages I'm starting to believe we will be selected for an interview. This happened for AOS so maybe thats the a big factor in the interview lottery. Now I'm wondering if the interview notice will arrive when we are overseas. What is the "usual" lagtime before an interview? At least a month or weeks? I may have to try and reschedule if it happens in that 6 week period. Can I do that without my wife, the immigrant?

So far I've only see that Mohsin was selected for interview (they have 2/11 CSC transfer date like us), but they didn't get a date yet I think, it totally depends on the local offices' workload.

If it makes you feel any better we have a bigger age difference than you do (and were recently approved without interview)... which we tried to address in our pictures and affidavits from friends but didn't appear to be a big deal at AOS interview, which I was concerned about. Some of that is because hubby is very handsome and doesn't look his age :D :D

Edited to add: we also don't have any children and we have no plans to (in part due to the age difference)

Hi Everyone,

If it makes you feel any better, likewise, my husband and I have a big age difference too. Lol...although both of us "look a lot younger than our ages", and we both believe that "age is just a number".

After all, "there is no number in love", right? (L)

For the AOS, we were called for an interview, but figured that it was pretty standard, as we did not have any other immigrant visas beforehand (see my VJ timeline for more info). During the interview they did not ask about our ages (lol..even though they had our birth certificates and other identification to prove such), and they focused on other issues instead during this short interview...

I wonder the same thing too, about being called for an interview or an rfe for the I-751. Likewise, I haven't heard anything else yet after my file got transferred from the VSC to the CSC on March 2nd. And yes, I do have travel plans coming up soon this month too, and admit, am worried about travelling again while my case is still pending (and possibly being approved). Luckily, I'm only going to Canada, and have not had too many problems travelling with an expired green card and extension letter. Hopefully, I won't have any problems this time around either.

Meanwhile, while you are travelling, maybe you can "hold the mail" and/or have a friend/relative/co-worker, etc. pick up the mail while you are out of the country, so you don't miss anything important there. And yes, try and make it back for the interview, but if not, definitely reschedule ASAP.

Hope this helps. Good luck on the rest of your immigration journey too.

Looking at the numbers, it is highly unlikely that you will get an interview, because the standard is approval without interview. You can easily reschedule even if you do have an interview, just do it fast (both of you have to be at the interview). Of course have someone look after your mail while you are away. As for age difference, it seems to be a non-issue here in USA. If you sent lots of proof that you are together as a couple, I would not worry about the age. Happy Journey and wishing quick approval with no interview to you!
